Ikengawo: Let's stop celebrating mediocricy.
The song was trash, has no point and is not memorable or noteworthy
the video is only shot with a standard 2012 HD camera, that doesn't make it quality, there are youtube videos with the same resolution so don't be wow'd by shininess. Look at the details. The woman 'smashes' the TV but they use a cheap CGI 'glass break' effect because they couldn't afford to smash an actual TV.
the woman 'smashes' the car window and it's the same thing. Mind you it's all completely pointless so you can't say the video was 'quality' there was nothing special about it.

The only reason I would say any of these things is because im worried at the level of 'america wanna-be' the nigerian music and movie industry is taking. We were able to be #1 in africa because for the first time we were showing the world africa. I don't think there has been a video shot in africa this year and the enthuasiasm for the music and movies are dying because instead of being africa we've become the cheap version of America. Sad thing is now we appeal neither to americans or nigerians. I hope this is just a foolish trend. These artists are getting arrogant and thinking anything they put out is gold. If you look at this years biggest hits

Kukere
Ile Ijo
Chop My Money
Pakuromo
Dami Duro
Nwa Baby

they still sounded very african, looked african, and used africans as the stars of the video.
This is a disappointment.
so what did you expect him to do? to wear agbada in his video? shocked shocked

I agree with most of your points, but in fairnesss to IDJA, D'prince's Take banana and Wande Coal's go low have been more of hits than anything D'banj has released in the past year, so I do beleive he's got an edge over the koko master. That being said, bout topic, considering previous comments, I think i'll pass until i hear and watch it on tv.

Criticisms are just normal. They don't mean "absolute hatred".Personally, what I feel is that Dbanj has nt released this song as a hit track. He's perhaps passing a message across, based on experience or otherwise.Dbanj is good,Don Jassy is also good.We sure can advice any one of them thru any of these media we use.All the best for em!

His diagnosis was.... I'm intolerant to 'not-so-good-can-be-much-better-music'. He said that I'm allergic to music that aren't up to standards.

Stop trying to change MY opinion. The music ain't that good. I don't like it.

You might like it, but I don't.

You don't expect everyone to like the same thing that you like.

&& don't expect me to like every music that d'banj makes.

It's like tonto dikeh's song, even though the song is clearly shît, some people still like it.

If the song was good, I won't have any issue saying it is.

The concept of the video is sick. The song is OK. That's it!

Nigerians!! Smh... You can never satisfy them.. That is one of the reasons the whole country in wallowing in so much problems.

If, and only If, Gangnam Style was shot and released by a Nigerian in Nigeria, trust me NBC and Nigerians would condemn it, not to talk of it becoming a HIT song- it would NEVER have had so much popularity and youtube views. It currently tops the chart all over the world.

Everyone condemns his songs...And each time D'Banj wins an award, they wonder why.

The song is okay. Personally for me, its better than Oyato which was destroyed by Bankuli voice on the chorus grin. Its true that fans seem to have become a lot more critical of D'banj overnight, and it seems to have coincided with his divorce from Mo Hits. But I believe these reactions aren't just to do with that. When D'Banj first went on his initial "Kanye signed me", "I'm with Good music" press promo tour, whether he intended to or not, he raised the bar of what most expected from him. I certainly thought that we would now see growth from him, experimentation and a sound with greater detail and quality. Most fans naturally expected him to step up his game. By the time the split happened and he was now talking Def Jam Africa, International artist, World domination, it was set in stone that expectation for him had risen whether or not he asked for it. He could no longer give the same product and not expect blowback or indifference. People now expect visible improvement and when they don't see it, they won't lower their expectations, they will instead voice criticisms. When 2face walked away from Plantashun Boyz, the expectations bar was raised for him too. He scaled it and fans responded. D'Banj so far has yet to meet the expectations he raised with his own mouth, going by the reaction of most fans.

Now its quite clear that it is too early for many to be declaring him in trouble, after all he hasn't even released an album and Oliver Twist was an unexpected monster hit, but its also silly to dismiss some of the criticisms as "hating", tribalism, "Jazzy fanbois" e.t.c. My money is on D'Banj eventually getting it right, but only if he isn't listening to just the sycophants around him, but the realists too.

I am sure none of the trolls criticizing dbanj has ever bough an ORIGINAL ARTISTs CD in naija yet you feel the need to talk rubbish. His fans like him, they buy his cds, they download on itunes, they PAY to watch his shows. Now tell me who the forck are you guys to be misyarning. If you do not like the song, don't listen to it. There millions out there who LOVE IT.
Re: VIDEO: D’banj – Bachelor by WSSmith: 2:35pm On Nov 10, 2012
Music no get tribe or language - a good music is pleasant to the ear and soothes the soul, a bad music hurts the ear and confuses the soul.
Listen to Ebenezer Obey, Rolling Dollar, Osita Osadebe, Oliver de cooque, King Sunny Ade, Christy Essien Igbokwe, Onyeka Onwenu ... these people didnt try to ride on tribal sentiment, they simply sang good songs. If your music is good, it overcomes petty minded tribalists and sails into every soul freely.
Lets not capiltalize on tribalism to support poor creativity and lack of skill. The first time I heard Dbanj I said this guy got no musical talent and its showing itself. The first time I heard Wande Coal, I said this guy got extra musical talent and it shows itself. Banky W, Dare art alade, IK dairo are musicains naturally, Wizkid got a unique voice pitch and style that stands out, Flavor has a raw/deeply local igbo high life style, listen to lyrical justice by Dagreen and tell me how he sweeps off beyond tribal sentiment even better than english and pidgin english rappers in the likes of Naeto C. Yes Dagreen is lyrically comparable only to MI. You see the akpako master or duncan mighty or timaya doing their thing with uniqueness. Dbanj tapped into the rise of our local (school table) beat discovered by Donjazzy and thrived on it but personally he is just a loud entertainer probably better as a ceremonial jester. Dude is not a musician.

Who are these im.be.ciles frothing in the mouth because people criticise D'Banj's WACK songs? It's irritating when you try to force other people to lick D'Banj's azzhole just cos that's what you choose to do. Worse still is to attribute dislike for D'Banj's recent songs to tribalism and what have you.

Facts don't lie. We live here in Nigeria, and we hang out ever so often and hear the hit tracks being played. We all know what a hit song is. Even annoying Timaya is now certainly back to reckoning with at least THREE hit songs rocking the airwaves, clubs, parties, joints, etc simultaneously. As much as some people love to hate Timaya, they can't deny that his new songs are ruling the charts and rocking parties daily. Same goes for Wizkid - who really can't stop producing monster hits. Not to mention Iyanya, whose 'Your Waist' has sustained the tempo introduced by Kukere. Of course Wande Coal's Go Low and Been Long You Saw Me are still hanging in there as decent hits too. The question therefore is; where is D'Banj? For the past two years,we have heard nothing other than Oliver Twist this and Oliver Twist that. Songs like Oyato and Bachelor are entirely useless. What is going on?

We don't expect him to make 'sensible' music that imparts knowledge, that's not the point of naija music anyway. All we want is a danceable, 'sweet sounding' commercial hit like he used to make in the past, and like his mates (Timaya, 2face, etc) are currently making. Is that too much to ask? Anyone who tries to reduce this to an Igbo vs Yoruba thing clearly needs to have his head examined!

excellent post - you raised good points!
however, you cannot compare the leap 2face made from plantation boys to the giant leap dbanj made from mo hits to kanye's g-o-o-d music! it's not his fault people expect gargantuan improvement from him.

some of the criticisms are not justified - imagine someone comparing davido's dami duro to this new song of d'banj.......some people actually think mr endowed is better than this one when its the same concept - it then makes you worry that some of the criticism have a hidden agenda in them!

like i said, i am a rap fan - d'banj's music is not my style but he should be applauded for putting nigeria on the global scale and he needs the support of all and sundry!
