Hi peeps,

Please I need your candid advice thus.

I am a graduate of accounting with MBA. I started by career in the banking industry as a teller, customers service officer, relationship manager. I later moved to project implementation, change management and now am in marketing Comms . I feel my career is haphazard in that if I want to build a particular line, I don't know which to do. I sometimes feel I shld focus on the marketing Comms cos am loving it despite its stress, at the same time I feel like taking courses in child development(so I can own a daycare etc) or HR courses.

It's all confusing. I welcome any help to aid my decision.

Please no insults o

i think you should go for the day care thing whilst you keep your job. atleast when you retire from the bank you are not totally retired as you have the day care to face fully. please get training in child development and make an impact in the family.

no, its not haphazard. the above highlighted point to a career in Public Relations

I sometimes feel I shld focus on the marketing Comms cos am loving it despite its stress, at the same time I feel like taking courses in child development(so I can own a daycare etc) or HR courses.

a masters in :

1. Psychology (maybe with Guidance Counseling?)
2. Development Management
3. Strategic PR Management

are also good alternatives.

It's all confusing. I welcome any help to aid my decision.

i think you should focus on building a career in Marketing Communications (or Project Management).

you can always hire people to run the daycare while you study.

Hello all,

I am back again.

An HR specialist recently reviewed my résumé and suggested I build a career in HR business partner( am amazed )!!!!. I am a very active person so am nt sure how this will work. At the same time, I have been taking some career tests and all fingers are pointing to counsellor, teacher, social worker etc.

I don tire oo...

What are his reasons for that suggestion?

What exactly do HR Business Partners do?

Or did he mean HP Business Partner?

They support the business to meeting their set target from an HR point of view, e.g recruiting right skill set, ensuring required training is given, regular job feedback from employee etc.
When all is in place from this view, the business is expected to perform and if nay default, the business mgr will handle.

oh, ok. more or less the standard HRM thingy?

your friend believes since you've worked in almost every possible department and you already have an interest in HR, you should pursue it? fine !

what do you plan to do from here on? start CIPMN while working in the bank, or go for a Masters degree?

all in all, experience is what matters when its time to look for jobs, which was why i suggested earlier that you build on your current MarComm role and maybe add a PMP.

if you are convinced its HR you want though, its extra work but achievable. as long as it makes you happy and fulfilled.
