BAN OF ALL PROMOTIONS AND LOTTERIES BY TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPERATORS
The Commission has, in recent times been inundated with several complaints from consumers, Industry Stakeholders against the various promotions offered by Telecommunications Operators.

Consistent with its processes, the Commission has carefully evaluated the complaints received especially against the backdrop of sustaining the integrity of the networks, the general interest of the consumers, the socio-economic impact of these promotions on Operators and other relevant stakeholders.

The Commission is also mindful of its statutory responsibilities such as; to protect and promote the interest of consumers against unfair practices, promote fair competition in the industry by protecting Operators from misuse of market power and anti-competitive/unfair practices by other Operators.

i. In due regard to the afore-mentioned responsibilities therefore and having observed that these promotions have increased the number of minutes available to subscribers for use within a limited period of time thereby creating congestion in the networks as subscribers try to use up the available minutes within the stipulated time.

ii. That on-net calls were now being offered by Operators at tariffs well below the prevailing inter-connect rates thereby introducing anti-competitive practices and behaviour.

iii. That termination of calls were becoming increasingly difficult from one network to another and overall consumer experience on the networks has become very poor thereby making it extremely difficult for subscribers to make calls successfully.

Consequent upon the above-mentioned, the Commission therefore has banned all promotions by Telecommunications Network Operators as well as lotteries being carried out on such networks. This ban covers all proposed and approved promotions and lotteries on which the Commission has given approval further to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).

This ban is with immediate effect and shall continue to remain in force until such a time as may be determined by the Commission. The Telecom Operators affected by this include the following:

• GLOBACOM LTD
• MTN
• INTERCELLULAR NIG PLC
• VISAFONE COMMS LTD
• ETISALAT
• AIRTEL NETWORKS LTD
• MULTILINKS TELECOMS LTD

The Commission wishes to assure all Telecommunications consumers of its resolve to ensure that the Quality of Service offered across all networks is such that delivers value to the consumers.

They are all scam artists! Empty Hen takes the lead. One cannot blame them though, our lawless society creates an enabling environment for their scamming schemes to thrive. Even a not-very-wealthy "chinco" can enslave Nigerians in Nigeria with impunity, let alone multinationals.

Hope this our regualtory body will find solution to drop calls, high tarrif, congestion and etc Which are daily occurences of telecoms users in Nigeria.

Sorry, it affects everyone due to the congestion it causes.

Good riddance, Now airtel will give me a break. The daily sms bombardment is now over.

These telecommunication companies in Nigeria are Corporate criminals and Fraudsters. NCC is an ineffective commission, the ban will soon be lifted. TBF, whatever punishment to be meted on these telecommunication companies should be in the form of compensations and bonuses to customers and not for NCC to enrich themselves with loads of monies gathered from big fines on the telecomm guys, afterall, we are the ones who bear the pains of their criminality.

This is a beautiful news, these Telecom firms want to enslave Nigerians in the name of promo. How can MTN promise to give an Aeroplane, what of if it's won by a farmer what will such a person do with an aeroplane? Even if they have an Aeroplane to give an indiividual which I know will cost Billions of Naira, will it not sound better to promise 2 million Nigerians 1 Million naira each and add more value to the society? The other day airtel gave a friend of mine 20k worth of free airtime by 9pm and expects her to use it to call Airtel lines alone before 12 Midnight, what sort of a promo is that?

Please, where can I comment? and Where is the N200 aeroplane? I like aeroplane.

All the issues raised above, as well as the displeasure by so many subscribers is a welcome idea. Am just bothered about the fact that some of them truly enrich the masses thru their promos. Well, kudos to NCC......But majority of the subscribers would have preferred compensation most especially on the issue of call drops and other hitches that has severely affected businesses in so many ways..................

The intent of the NCC is commendable, one of the primary concerns of the telcos should be the provision of consistent top-notch service not marketing. However the NCC have failed to say what they are doing/going to do about ensuring excellent service delivery from the operators. Further to that I don't quite agree with the 'ban with immediate effect' - it's high handed and impractical.

Long overdue.

Welcome development. All the money they used in promoting all these fake promos, If they use it to improve their network people will appreciate them more.. Imagine the price of using their network is stuck, internet price is still on the high side. Yet they are coming with stupid promos..
