A member of the Nuhu Ribadu Petroleum Revenue Task Force, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has said the committee’s report remains credible, despite Mr. Steve Oronsaye’s opposition.

Oronsaye is the Deputy Chairman of the task force.

The former Head of Service and another member of the committee, Ben Otti, during the submission of the report to President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on November 2, said the report was not reliable because the process of its production was faulty.

Ever since there has been speculation that Oronsaye and Otti were included in the committee to undermine its report.

But Agbakoba said via SMS to our correspondent on Monday, “The report hasn’t been undermined by anyone even though issues have arisen but as I said, there’s enough in the report to shake up the industry.”

The former Nigerian Bar Association President also called for implementation of the report “subject to any further action that may be necessary”.

Though, he admitted that the committee encountered “procedural challenges”, he said, “Nonetheless it is my view that the report recorded sufficient credible information for a robust review of the oil and gas industry.”

He expressed his confidence in the report, saying whatever distractions capable of hindering its implementing should be avoided.

He said, “Having fully participated in the work of the committee, I can confirm that the management of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon assets requires a radical transformation.

“We should focus on substance and request the government to take urgent steps to implement the report, subject to any further action that may be necessary.”

Agbakoba expressed his disappointment over “wrong media interest” the report has so far generated even as he reiterated his confidence in it.

“Let’s focus on substance. We need action and not distraction,” he said.

He said the way to go about the report was to adopt Jonathan’s recommendations on the report.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria quoted Jonathan as saying, “If there are errors of calculation or misinformation in the report, that will be filtered out and corrected. Issues of corruption will go to the EFCC”.

The only people questioning the credibility of the report are media thugs like El Rufai and our God forsaken opposition parties. The FG merely pointed out the flaw in the report as reiterated here by Agbakoba whilst not failing to appreciate the core findings and significance of the report. Ribadu's forthrightness is his greatest attribute but sadly, he's always overzealous in his dealings. I hope the Mallam finds a way to overcome this glaring character flaw.
