Investors in the Nigerian Stock market have now been properly protected against the negligent attitude of some quoted companies. The SEC, the apex regulatory body for the Nigerian Capital Market, today released measures aimed at checking delayed distribution of share certificates, dividend certificates and bonuses. An interesting part of the policy is the portion that makes e-IPO compulsory by April 2008.

The implication for investors is that they are also required to endeavor that their CSCS numbers (CSCS account and/or CSCS House numbers) are clearly stated on future IPO/PO forms as may be requested. Failure to do son may result to some unforeseen inconveniences since there are plans to also phase out in its entirety the idea of issuing share certificates. The National Assembly is also calling form Memorandum on Capital Market operation with a view to address issues relating to inconveniences suffered by investors as a result of incessant over subscription/return money issues.
