Have been hearing different controversial stories about this soup porpularly call "ila" in the western part of nigeria....will like to hear your views on this two soup and why you prefer one to the other.

it sure depends on how it is made... ogbono soup tho better cannot be compare to okra with stew

who told about my secret method.

I prefer ogbono soup. I dislike the okra particles in okra soup.

Simply cook them both together, add goatmeat, stockfish and periwinkles, spice it with adusa leaf and you simply cannot go wrong

I like Okro to Ogbono.. Ogbono makes me puke after eating it...

Amala and thick ogbono? Never tried it.

ummmm yummy when grandma made it with native pot. Ogbono and okro combined with assorted bushmeat + yellow yam poundo. Nice with Cocoyam poundo also.

Ogbono only with yellow garri
Okra only with bonga fish, mangala and Tinko

not this drawless vegie they call Okra for here they use for jambalaya gini. i mean real ezigbo okro fresh from farm drawing like no man business. . . a great lunch anyday.

Can't cook that now...cooked ogbono, okra with goatmeat last week...I am on atama this week...so perhaps next month

You know we akwa ibomites/calabars name the soup after the leaf used or major leaf if two kinds of leaves are used.

Atama soup is what others call banga...but it's not fully banga because yes, we use palm nuts in cooking but we also add egusi (or waterleaf) and then the washed already sliced atama leaf

wanted to know what i have been doing wrong
i cant seem to get my ogbono to draw.
i dunno maybe i use too much palm oil
or maybe the oil is too hot..
help anyone pls

get some real ogbono from the igbo traders. they are lightish brown or brownish without the dustlike stuff.

and ogbolo aka ogbono soup. then mix the two together. enjoy with freshly pounded yam or garri with tombo or apple cider.

Also, dont cover the pot when u add ur ogbono, allow to cook for some minutes, add ur nxt ingredient. Just learnt this from an elderly woman. Helps make d ogbono draw wella.

Very correct!! If U must cover d pot, cover halfway...

Heard dat too much onions also makes d soup not to 'draw'. I dont knw how true, but am very sure of d pot cover.

Don't cover both of them at all and it depend on the water u are using..If the water is nt good then the ogbono will nt draw same with okro.....

Mehn! Why did I come to this section? I am so hungry now. And I don't even have any of these ingredients in the house. Gotta go to an African store or a farmers market this weekend.

"Ogbono"? That's apon in Yoruba, right? Very tasty. I like both with stew and any dish, but I will have to pick apon over okra.
