How do you define action Seun?

Taking a stand in what you believe in is enough to qualify as action. If you read my article properly, I was basically asking those of you on the other side of the divide, "dear opposers of the mob/jungle justice bill, what have you DONE?"

You see, some of you say, call for reforms! We don't need more laws! Specific laws are a waste of time!! Now I don't mind that you guys have your opinions, what I mind is the fact that you people would rather sit down and debate the rightness or wrongness of an action without doing anything about what you believe.

In my opinion, those who take action are on a higher plane than those who don't.

The death-rate/murder-rate in Nigeria should be more than 20,000 annually... However, how come no one is protesting/signing-petitions about how to reduce these barbaric, savagely, and avoidable deaths?? The whole system is twisted - and it needs a complete overhaul, not just crying over the deaths of some people because they were over-publicized by the media and the internet...

When Nigerians are ready for the complete overhaul of the system a la revolution - I'll sign the petition... However, it's still business as usual!

The barbaric and gruesome manner in which those young men met their death was enough to warrant the attention it got.

And I think a revolution will not happen when we are not willing to speak out, sign petitions, protests or take whatever action in necessary to express our grievances against certain issues that affect us. It all starts with that small petition Shymexx. I am not giving up on the system just because it stinks. I am a Nigerian. I am the system.

The reality is that no one wants their lives disrupted. We willingly want to function in chaos because its what we are used to.

Have children -
Take care of elderly parents and extended family
Chaos of work - trying to impress your boss, stress, traffic, fatigue

No one in Nigeria is willing to disrupt the chaos that they work within. So Nigerians will never seek a revolution, because of the cycle - folks are trained to function within.

My point is, why didn't those who oppose the drive for more laws DO SOMETHING themselves. It is not enough to get them to focus on what is important. We have a culture of debating and disagreeing with others, and then doing NOTHING about our own beliefs.

Did you write this ?? really! I think Nigerians always miss the disease and tackle the symptoms.

As Seun pointed out, murder is already a punishable offence - so the question is why the continued mob actions ? It points out to something else wrong somewhere. and while you are at it, why not another bill seeking to ban armed robbers killing people and another one banning bad roads (hope you'r getting my drift).

We want to take 'action' but actions should be the meaningful ones where our energies are channeled in the right direction.
