IMO, I think it's by far better than using mother's tongue, considering Nigeria is a multilingual Country with over 500 Langauges, and most of our youths understand and like communicating in Pidgin English!!

If that happens,it only means english language will become a big problem for the youths

I don't see anything wrong in using both. Like in India and other Asian Countries, even some European Countries, they use other Langauges as alternative; and degrees are being offered in those Langauges. At least after studying and you want to further in an English speaking Country, you'll go for an English proficiency test as usual!!

Yes,those country use their native language,I see nothing wrong in using our native language provided we are ready to write new textbooks or interprete existing textbook.

Think about it(pidgin is distorted english),so their is no way pidgin wont have a tremendous negative effect on english proficiency.

Currently, our abbreviations as a result of the use of social media and sms messages is already leading to a downward spiral in the quality of the proficiency of english writings. Not to tall of also homophones and the likes

Teaching in pidgin will only add more problem to the one's on ground

I understand where you are coming from bro. I'm not saying English Language shouldn't be used while Nigerian Pidgin is used as second/third Language or studied the way we study French and other Nigerian Languages in our Secondary Schools! Considering the fact that Nigeria is a Multilingual Country, with over 500 Languages, it would be easier to use Pidgin English (With over 80 million speakers - as first and second/third language) as one of our language of instruction in schools compare to using the three major langauges in Nigeria.

I have noticed that telecommunications companies in Nigeria use Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba & Igbo as alternative langauges of communication; also, Pidgin is one of the most spoken language in Nigerian Banks today. Google .ng also has Nigerian Pidgin as langauge option for Nigerians. So, if you look at it from my point of view, there is nothing wrong in using it as an option for language of instruction in our schools or a subject to be studied in Secondary School or an option for study in our Institutions of higher learning.

I don't think studying Pidgin English would affect our English Langauge proficiency. Talking about abbreviations, it's a worldwide thing and not only Nigeria; with advancement in communications technologies & all, things change! Langauge evolves over time! The English Langauge we speak and write today is not the same as old English; it's evolves everyday with addition of new words and slangs! The information age makes it spread quickly, that's just the difference!

Again, I don't think teaching Pidgin English in our schools would affect our proficiency in English Langauge!

Pigeon is good, but it sounds very informal.

Imagine writing an application letter in pigeon to a company, it would look like a comedy script.

The language is used for informal discussion imo I feel it should remain that way.

Anyone who is unable to speak english, should stick to his/her native dialect...pigeon isn't and option.
