* Says It Has Saved Enough To Complete All Projects

PROMISING to turn the State to a "a huge construction yard", Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State Saturday flagged of three bridges of 60, 45, and 45 meters on Atani-Ozubulu Road, vowing to complete them within the lifespan of his administration.

The event was preceded by the flag-off of several other projects.

Estimated to cost over N2 billion, the bridges, excluding the 12-kilometre road components, are handled by TAMAD construction firm based on its satisfactory execution of Amansea-Ebenebe Bridge.

According to the State Government, the construction of the Onitsha-Ogbaru- Akiliozizar-Atani-Ogwuikpere road, a 60-kilometre Trunk A road that terminates in Rivers State, costs it N16 billion due to the difficult terrain.

It said, with the construction of the stretch from Atani to Ozubulu, the entire areas would become accessible.

Speaking at the flag-off, Obi said he would continue to meet the aspirations of the people of the State till the last day of his administration.

"We have seen those in authority flag off many projects even when they did not save money for their execution; but, in our own case, for any project we are flagging of, we have saved money for that", Obi said.

State Commissioner for Works, Callistus Ilozumba, an Architect, said the Atani-Ozubulu Road was among the roads abandoned by successive governments due to high costs, but which the Obi administration is currently constructing.

"Some of the roads that belong to the same class as this are the Umuoba- Anam-nmiata road, roads in Ayamelum and parts of Anambra West," the Commissioner submitted.

In his own remarks, a community leader in the area, Chief Michael Okendu, said he was short of words to describe what God has done for the State through the Government. He said that nobody would have thought that Anambra Government would do the road under reference with three bridges.

Certain # do not add up, the 60km cost N16billion, meanwhile the entire project cost N2billion, which is it? Nonetheless, it's good that the gov is taking the initiative. Let us hope this follow through as planned, though in my opinion, it's a lil expensive

The atani-rivers state 6okm road dat is costing 16 billion naira is a different road from the one dat has d three bridges....d atani-ozubulu with d three bridges with a 12km road costing 2 billion naira actually is meant to connect u,just after passing d river niger bridge to onitsha~owerri expressway road without going tru onitsha madness! Kind of a bypass

So the road after completion will cut d distance from onitsha to owerri to some kilometers....and also opening up bush communities along dat terrain.
