ONE CHANCE….

We wailed, and thronged into the Street
If the captain is incapacitated and sick
Certainly his deputy must stand on his feet
And ascend the much coveted seat

He promised transformation and freshest of air
Hurray, we clasped, finally the hero is here
To put a nail on the coffin of our despair
For now the gods to us at last are fair

I had no shoes we were told
Then our reasoning we sold
For if indeed the sailor had no shoe
Why would he give a damn on our rue

Soon came the anticipated debate
of course, he had issues with the date
Why sir, you can come late if you may
No no, I’d rather it be myself I face

Not a few doubted his ability and competency
the omens were luminous for all to see
We got blinded by the academic decency
For once, we said, a tribesman from the sea!

Four rainy seasons on he led
Please do something anew we begged

Bombs and bullets everywhere
At first, we will deal with them he swears
With no plans nor strategy in the clear
He advises we learn to live with the fear

After the storm came the flood

For how can a people be so on the wrong?

Next time, we’ll learn to take our chance
With eyes opened wide and enhanced
Not be hoodwinked like a nation in a trance
For now, truly, we don enter….ONE CHANCE.
