Dedicated to those interested learning CNC machining, the knowledge of it will help individual to seek a position in entry level in industries operating on CNC machines. Likewise, to help experience CNC machine operators seeking to become CNC machinist - programmer

Salary of a CNC Machinist range from $15000 to over $100000 yearly depending on experience.

Using this opportunity to encourage engineers, machinists, teachers, lecturers, researchers, students, and Doctors to join us make this project a viable one.

Periodically, I will be shooting out CNC programming lessons and anyone with specific questions is encouraged to shoot out such questions.

Personally, I’m CNC machinist – programmer with over 20 years of experience…

LESSON-2
THE CARTESIAN COORDINATE SYSTEM

In CNC process of CAD, CAM, and tool referencing, Cartesian coordinate system is used to keep track of referencing. The outcome on the computer should match that of what occurs at the physical machine.
Figure 2-1 shows a two-dimensional representation of the Cartesian coordinate system. Particular points of interest are that the X and Y lines are at 90 degrees to each other. Where the lines of intersection cross is defined as point of origin and have values of X = 0 and Y = 0.
Hence, any values to the right of the Y axis will have a positive X value. Conversely, any values
above the X axis will have a positive Y value. Subjectively X and Y point values have been selected in each of the quadrants to show their corresponding X and Y numerical values. It is a standard practice to refer to the coordinate axes in a certain "order." That being X, then Y, and,
finally, Z.

POINTS OF REFERENCE
In CNC machines, tool location is controlled within the coordinates system. This positional information is established by Zero points (reference points).
The first is Machine Zero, a fixed point established by the manufacturer which is the basis for all coordinate system measurements.
The second zero point is called the workpiece zero that is used as the basis for programmed coordinate values. It is established within the part program by a special code and is dependant on the machine zero point.

LESSON – 3

PROCESS PLANNING FOR CNC

What is CNC programming?

CNC programming is a method of defining tool movements through the application of numbers and corresponding coded letter symbols.
The following phases of production are considered in programming:

1. Technical part drawing
2. Work holding considerations
3. Tool selection
4. Preparation of the part program
5. Part program tool path verification
6. Measuring of tool and work offsets
7. Program test by dry run
8. Auto-operation

PROGRAM FORMAT
The language used for controlling machine tools is known as “G-Code”. This language is used worldwide and is consistent, a program created for a particular part on one machine may be use on other machines with minimal changes required.

Prior to part programming let’s take a look at list of G and M-codes commonly found on FANUC and similarly designed controls by visiting the below listed websites:

At this junction, we move forward, first operation in CNC turning center is facing the bar stock, we are going to use the print received from a local furniture builder to demonstrate face off, turn and cutoff operations with the necessary calculations. Fig. 0005
