ABOUT 54 youths who participated in the Osun State Beef Production Programmes (O’Beef) have received N50,000 each to encourage them start their own business after undergoing intensive training in livestock production.

The Director General, Office of Economic Development and Partnership, Osun State, Dr Charles ‘Diji Akinola who made this known urged the beneficiaries to judiciously use the grants for their economic emancipation.

He said the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola was determined to eradicate unemployment and that this informed the commitment of his administration to empowering the youth.

The youths were trained at the Oloba Farm Settlement, Iwo, a cattle  ranch owned by Osun State government which is currently under the management of a South African expert in conjunction with IITA and Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

Akinola commended the youths for their determination to learn and exhibition of good decorum, just as he commended those awarded with distinction for sterling performance.

He clarified that the N50,000 was not a loan that would be repaid to the government, stressing that “Today, on behalf of Osun State government, the Office of Economic Development and Partnership through our O’Beef programme is disbursing a sum of fifty thousand naira to each of the 54 youths who took part in the scheme.”

"Osun will be supplying beef to South-West region and this will further boost our Internally Generated Revenue. “considering the huge  market for cattle in Oyo, Lagos and other Yoruba states, animal rearing and production became a paramount economic programme for the state and we are encouraging our youths to show interest in agriculture, especially the livestock," Akinola remarked.

Bullsh*t!!! What kind of business can you start with N50,000 N50,000 is not even enough to entertain only 2 friends with Suya and a couple of drinks at the Nicon in Abuja. This is more than disgraceful.

Na beans? You want to take over the South West beef market with N50,000 investment capital? This is a tall dream and sorry to say that the beneficiaries are empowered to fail, they should rather concentrate on snail/fish or poultry farming which the paltry capital can barely sustained.

It isn't a loan so they can get additional financing and besides if you can't manage 50k, you can never manage 500k. The government has given them what they need the most to succeed which is KNOWLEDGE and not the money

Ipinle Omoluabi ko ni baje o, Aasee!
the 50k is not to start cattle rearing, it is to start beef production and they may need to add to the gift from their pocket.

You just showed that you've never ventured into business of any sort. The paltry sum giving to the beneficiaries is like a start-up incentives, you are the one that should be realistic here. If the participants could raised the requisite business capital on their own, most of em won't have bothered to enroll for the program in the first place.

The Agricultural program was seen as a getaway from the labour market by most of the participants, and the so called 'knowledge' you referred to will amount to a waste without adequate fund to make it a reality. May be it has not occurred to you that 'Owo ni keke ihinrere'...

I hope you don't go into business with this type of mind set.

You my friend is the one who doesn't understand how a business works. You can call the 50k whatever you want. The least they will do with it is register a business name and deploy their skills into action. I've worked in several banks and have seen people start multimillion Naira businesses without committing a kobo of theirs. Every business starts with an idea and not capital. Seriously I don't engage in base arguments like these. And I've been running three successful businesses for over a decade now and the last thing I always think of is how much after so much consideration for how it will work and what impact will it have

Dumb asses, the fulani's have been producing beef for centuries and osun wants to supply the west with 45 x 50k!

I tot orobi's were good been counters. Anyway, they can produce all the beef they want. Its probably some genetic mutated shit anyway.

Thats why we the organic and inorganic sections.

The south west need to desist frm this 419 packaging.... Thier too dubious.
