Transfer From Old To New Host by schneid: 10:17am On Dec 17, 2012
hello gurus, i want to transfer my clients website from my old hosting to new hosting. my headache is:
i have created new hosting account for all the websites but i didnt want to change the dns yet.
i have joomla installed on all the old sites which i needed to transfer using akeeba or any other good one.
since i have not changed the DNS, HOW DO I ACCESS THE NEW WEBSITES SINCE THE DOMAIN IS STILL POINTING TO THE OLD HOSTING.

APART FROM AKEEBA, WHICH OTHER GOOD TOOL CAN I USE TO TRANSFER?
THANKS

If you are not familiar or have root access to either of the servers, let your host do the transfer for you. Alternatively, you can backup and transfer the sites your self (technically not for newbies).

Cheers.

For a hitch-free transfer of website to new host

The following steps are to be taken
1. Create account for the website on new host- Pls do not cancel the account on the old host
2. Back-Up the website with all databases if there is any database to your computer.- very important for CMS, whether Wordpress or Joomla

3. Transfer/upload them to the new host one after the other

4. Transferring the domain name, to ensure that the website does not experience and down-time, change your DNS nameservers to the new host
If there is need for domain transfer to a new registrar, unlock the domain, and get the EPP transfer authorization code (also known as an
authcode), which you will need at the new registrar. And inform your old registrar about your transfer so that they can approve it

5. Then test the website on the new host.

6. Then Cancel old host account.

This is the procedure we follow to transfer website. Hope it helps

rufaai has said it all. You need root access to transfer your hosting account from one server to another..

You don't need Akeeba or any joomla backup program.
I would advise you contact your new hosting account provider for account transfer.
If you plan to transfer your domain, then you need to unlock your domain.... Your new domain registrar will guide you through the process.

The second option:
if the above fails....
first option never fails, if it fails run run run.. away....

Assuming your old and new hosts run on cPanel.

Log into your old host's cPanel and go to "backup". Create a full backup and store it or download it.

Contact your new host and give them the backup file asking for them to place it in the /home directory of their server and help you do a restore from their WHM interface.

Alternatively you could give your new host your cPanel details of your old host and any averagely nice host will be more than willing to help you do the seamless transfer.

$username ="Your cpanel username";

$your_server_ip= "Your servers ip address"; //some kind of number e.g 126.7.23.12
