Hello guys, I had this amazing discussion/argument with some of my friends today, the argument was, Some folks just use content management systems like drupal, joomla, wordpress etc, they install themes developed by other people for their clients and claim to be web designers, Does thist really make them web designers?

A Web Designer is one who contributes to a site's development using HTML and CSS (and possibly Javascript). A Web Designer can resort to using CMS however the use of CMS alone does not make anyone a Web Designer. A CMS user with admin privileges is called an Administrator.

A Web designer is someone who designs Web pages. A Web designer is more focused on the look and feel of a website than how it works. One of the most important tasks of the web designer is the creative design of web pages. They must be excellent in working with graphics software, like Photoshop, and also with languages like Javascript.

Web designing is much more than installing 3 step CMSs like Word press and Joomla.

No they don't have to have a working knowledge of graphics software. They work with Graphics Designers collecting the finished jobs and slicing it using Html and CSS.

This is by definition though, in practice one person does the work of a Web Designer, Graphics Designer and Web Developer.
