How Much To Hold In Bank Account For Canadian Student Visa by Obalende: 12:34am On Feb 19, 2008
Hi people,

I would appreciate responses from people who have either applied (and got or did not get), thinking of applying or very knowledgeable in immigration matters.

I will be applying to Canadian consulate for a student visa for 1 year MEng course this year - please how much should i have as balance (average) so I am not rejected on financial grounds

Thanks.

Something that will cover your tuition fees will be good.You dont want a tuition fee of $14000 and they see $10000.
Which school in canada are you applying to?

Hi tipsy289,

Thanks very much for your very informative answer; i am applying to University of Windsor, University of Victoria and University of Guelph. for 1 year MEng.

Will a balance of $100,000 be more than enough I also heard some of the embassies will reject for having too much money in account; will this figure be too much from a canadian embassy perspective; just trying to be on the safe side.

especially if the person has 2-3 dependent siblings (ie. depending on the same sponsor).

@Poster
be carefull on the amount of money on your statement Ma cousine got a canadian visa to uni windsor with no bankstatement but that was during the days of interview, i guess he talked his way tru i got 3 cuzins in windsor now and i dont think they had up to 5million in ma auntys account when they applied for there visas, The normal rules atill apply to all study visas as regards finance e.g source of funds, make sure you explain the fact that your sponsor can comfortably handle your expences, just normal rules dude. wish you all he best aight.

The bank statements only show that you have enough or more than enough to finance your stay and your tuition. There' nothing like having too much . . .just pure bs. As far as the bank statements are not questionable, you are fine. If u pass the first "hurdle", they'd ask you anyways to pay your fees and get the school to fax the confirmation to them. It's not like you'd have the opportunity to collude with the institution. However, the onus is on you to be able to PROVE that you are only going to Canada for your studies and you have no intention to stay when you are done. So, if you can show you have a job waiting for you in Naija when u are done or very strong family ties (perhaps a family or a family business, etc), amongst other things, then you should be good. Remember, your application has to be Idiot-proof!

Key words: VERY Strong Family Ties

what would you consider to be strong ties? My application for a visa to the university of Dalhousie was refused twice, the first time they said I didnt have enough money, the second time the said I was not a bonafide student and I could not convince them that I would return to Nigeria after my studies.
I'll appreciate it if anyone could help.
Dalhousie university even gave me a scholarship. I still want to try again.

Please good people of N'Land, am having same issue here, am in Europe presently, but my big question is will this financial proof be after the payments of the tuition fees or before? And is it better to apply from Italy here or Naija?
