The body is made of dust molded in the image of God(does not necessarily mean God looks exactly like man).This body houses the soul which is the real YOU.The soul is being programmed by God(the creator) with mind and free will to do whatever it pleases .The spirit is Gods breath that makes the body alive to be able to carry the soul around and interpret what ever the soul instructs.When a man dies,it means the spirit is taken away from the body and it returns back to God.The body becomes dust and the concious soul moves out of the body and wait for judgment(giving account of all its activity on earth). The soul either goes to heaven or hell after judgement.

The above didn't gives a clear difference. Read Gen 2:7 and Gen 1:2 to know the clear differences.

Besides, is it your body that've returned to dust or your invisible soul that would go to heaven/hell?

People have formed a tripartite theology which actually came direct from the school of Platonic thought , rather than tangible backing from the scripture.

For example in Gen 2:7 which you correctly mentioned, it says MAN was made of :

1. Dust
2. spirit ( God's breath )

The product of these 2 is the LIVING SOUL.

And when God cursed ADAM , the curse was DEATH , he did not say to ADAM , Your body will return to the earth while your soul goes to the some unseen place and your spirit returns to me, what madness.

He simply addressed MAN as dust, " dust you are and to dust you shall return " , because God knew quite well that without the gift of life through his spirit, MAN is nothing but DUST.

Here's what Jesus's physical brother had to say about this :

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." - James 2:26

spirit here denoting wind or breath :
