Fashola Earmarks N100b For Roads

Posted By On January 2, 2013 @ 2:51 pm In Metro,News | 4 Comments

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has earmarked N100 billion for road construction, rehabilitation and other infrastructure this year.

At least, 70 percent of the fund would be used in completing ongoing road projects across the state, a source disclosed to P.M.NEWS, while the remaining 30 percent of the budgeted sum would be used for other infrastructural projects, construction of new roads and rehabilitation of other dilapidated roads.

With this amount budgeted for works as capital expenditure in the budget, it shows that the Lagos State Government is laying more emphasis on completion of already awarded road contracts and awarding of few other road projects as buttressed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Kadri Hamzat three weeks ago.

Aside the N100 billion for roads and infrastructure, N4.5 billion has also been given to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure as subvention for 2012.

Environmental protection is the second top priority in Fashola’s budget as it is expected to spend N28.6 billion on capital project, while the Environment Ministry also has a subvention of N8.1 billion.

Also, the third on the list of capital expenditure is the Ministry of Transportation with N22.6 billion earmarked to execute projects in the sector, while N691 million will be given to the Ministry as subvention.

N19.58 billion will be used in executing statewide projects by the state government this year, while the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has a capital expenditure of N15.6 billion and a subvention of N95 million.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has a capital expenditure of N12.13 billion, out of which N3.2 billion has been earmarked for the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The ministry also has a subvention of N1.4 billion.

Education, has a capital expenditure of N11.79 billion and a subvention of N12.19 billion; while Housing has a capital expenditure of N10 billion and Health, N8.9 billion capital expenditure and a subvention of N2 billion.

While the Lands Bureau will execute projects worth N7.98 billion, the Ministry of Science and Technology will execute projects worth N5.28 billion. The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development will execute projects worth N4.6 billion. The capital expenditure for 2013 for Finance Ministries, N3.68 billion; Justice, N3.12 billion; House of Assembly, N2.8 billion; Agriculture and Cooperatives, N2.5 billion; Rural Development, N1.75 billion plus a subvention of N38 million; Social Protection, N1.64 billion; Tourism and Intergovernmental Issues, N1.5 billion; Judiciary, N1.2 billion; Special Duties, N1.12 billion, while other ministries have a capital expenditure of less than N1 billion.

Bola and fash should tell lagosians the truth that most road being constructed in lagos will be paid for by gej.

If Lagos has to fix badly damaged FG roads with the latter's agreement then the state govt. needs to be paid back.

I hope places like ipaja, ayobo, ijaiye are included In the project, cause sometimes I wonder if such areas are part of lagos state,so many dilapidated roads, bad drain system.while areas like ikoyi, lekki, enjoy most of the developmental dividends leaving out others as if there don't exist.its not a fair governance, there should equity among all

Somehow, when Lagos State government says they want to spend 100 billion on roads, I believe they will use at least 80 percent of the money for the purpose. FG will allocate, and eat all the money, then go back to national assembly for supplemantary allocation. I have always said that corruption can exist side by side with development. Our problem in Nigeria is not corruption but wickedness.

less than 1000 doctors for a population of nearly 17 million and this fellow of a Governor still allocates a relative pittance to Health while Lagosians constantly suffer sub-par healthcare.

For those who won't do the maths, that's one doctor to 17,000 citizens. shocked

N100b earmarked for Roads but 70% meant for on-going road projects, we are talking about N70b going to on-going roads, where are the on-going roads ? This is the real fleecing I guess.

Since you are based in Lagos, i think you can do justice to humanity by heading to Alausa and help us get where the 70 billion will be expended on.
Please do since you feel there is some fleecing going on.

Some people here are funny. There is an opportunity cost for every thing, Lagos has and had a lot of problems before Fashola and after him, it will still have problems. Fashola cannot solve ALL lagos problem on the meagre revenue Lagos has compared to the population of about 17million people. The main focus should be on infrastructure. The Blue Rail is ongoing(though it slowed down, i live there), the Badagry 10 lane is ongoing, The Ojota-Ikorodu expansion(i was in that area in dec) is ongoing these are major projects requiring huge budgets. There are some other small small roads(the oshodi rd, etc).. I can't mention all. One is not saying Fashola is a saint. But let us put emotion in the bin. The man is trying but when the problems are enormous and the funds are little(N499b...for a population of 17million is a drop by world standard, that is just $3.1b).So if he doesnt allocate to Health , i am glad as he has to be focused. The reason Fashola is noticeable is because he is focused. Something other governors should learn. Focus ! Most governors and GEJ are making one big mistake trying to transform health, sports, agric, transport, this and that on such a tiny budget .in the end the impact is not felt. But take one important sector and focus on really giving it a go, and see the knock on effect. Just before some one says ACN paid me N100m, let me say it so the person doesnt have to bother and waste his post/strength....ACN paid me more than that sef for propaganda fee. Satisfied?

Fashola is working, no doubt, but If you consider how much enters the state coffers(IGR, FG allocation, . . .). you will be disappointed . Lagos state has the fattest wallet but fails to perform excellently. In my opinion, Fashola isn't intelligent because an intelligent governor will know how to prioritize his goals. After going through many details, I've decided not to play into the hand of these Fash noise again(adopting the 'enugu state eba eno' nonsense by chimaroke nnamani).

So because somebody have the fattest cash translates to this?
With your education, you should also know know that Lagos have the greatest responsibility among the states.
