I would be traveling with my Family- Wife & 2 Kids for a 10 day DUBAI TOURISM from the 20th to the 30th of January.

I have booked our flights via WAKANOW and paid for Accommodation thru their portal too.

I have not gotten our VISAs- any help?

Tips and advise needed on where to visit, what to do, what to pack with and certain Scams to be watched out for.

PS: Please MOD pin this thread so that fellow Nlers who will be traveling too can comment and Nlers living in UAE and other Travel Agents can give us their advise and help.

well as for wakanow.com for your visa you have no problem because they did Mine too....just don't bother to mingle with Nigeria guys in diera because they will exsault you and leave you stranded

I have2 Accomodation options- Auris in Diera and on Kuwait Street, minutes from the Burjuman Shopping Centre. Which do you advise I stick to and why? Considering the facts I am traveling with 2 kids incl?
Re: Dubai Shopping Festival (PIX Uploaded) by rexxx: 6:01pm On Jan 07, 2013
Diera is more of the shopping centre and easy to access but the one on kuwait street u will not see many nigerians there and u will need to take a train to access the shopping area. It depends on you and the purpose u are travelling. If just for pleasure kuwait street is okay but for business and pleasure diera is a better option.

Main purpose for travelling is pleasure, How long from Kuwait Street to the central shopping area and what are the problems faced with staying too close to Nigerians

Good to know you would be visiting Dubai. Well, as for accommodation, you would want to stay close to the metro. You get to spend less on transportation if you use the metro.

Ensure your hotel is close to a metro station. When you get to Dubai, you can get the metro cards at any station and use to visit any of the malls. The metro saves you on a lot.

As for places to visit, you can visit the malls (Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall, etc). There might be a tour agency attached to your hotel so you can also book for a city tour (it might be cheaper to hire a taxi and negotiate with the driver considering you are going with family).

Whatever you do, do not miss Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates! Itz a fantastic experience. The Desert Safari tour is also a WOW experience but might not be advisable for kids (the rides could get really bumpy in the desert).

You may also visit the Atlantis(The Lost Chambers) which is close to the beach too. Your kids would sure love this!

For shopping, you may want to shop in Deira (things are cheaper in this area) but as someone rightly advised, avoid Nigerians hanging around. If you choose to shop in malls, then be ready to spend. Things are quite cheap in Deira and you can also get quality stuff there too.

If you want to have extra fun, you can visit Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

Having fun in Dubai is all about how much you are willing to spend. Dubai is a beautiful place. You sure will enjoy your trip.

Thank you so much for this wonderful contribution. I would want to concentrate in Dubai and with a 5K USD budget what other places do u recommend and what tricks to get cheaper rebates while in Dubai. As for the Nigerians to be avoided- what is the risk of association with country brothers over there.

Nobody said you should avoid naija guys there.....When you get there you will understand , the busy ones are hard to see unless weekend or Friday......well for easy road walk I prefer hotel anywhere near palm diera or baniya square...because they are both close to metro station

I will advise you to first take the big bus tour of dubai the starting point is at the deira city centre you can also buy your desert safari from them as well as the wild wadi water park at a much discounted price.

For african food you can visit afican home restaurant at the mezanine floor al hili hotel on al sabka road deira they also have a branch near california hotel naif deira.

Also visit dragon mart at the international city is a chinese mall with very cheap goods

Also visit the karama market for cheap designer replica that most boutiques in Nigeria sell.

As some said please don't trust any Nigerian hustlers in dubai most of them are cheats rather trust the indians etc

Du is the Best...

Pls where do I buy the DU? Do they have cumbersome registration methods and how do I recharge. pls any tips?
Re: Dubai Shopping Festival (PIX Uploaded) by HAH: 6:51pm On Jan 14, 2013
You can buy Du lines anywhere all you need is your intl passport, they are more expensive at the airport so better buy it outside airport

In addition pls ignore some marketers at the airport that will invite you to an event and promising you a safari, it is a waste of time unless you want to invest with them, the safari promised is also not the usual jolly one .

Take train it will help you reduce cost but as a stranger you don't have a choice but to use taxi which is expensive. But after getting to know your location you can take the metro.

yes they need photocopies of your visa and passport thats all. Roaming is around N300 per min to Nigeria. Buying a Du sim is your best bet.

Just wondering why nobody has mentioned Global village expecially as u are goin wit ur kids.. Pls go to global village as in a must go. Its a big place so be sure ready to waka + even u will love the amusement park talk more of ur kids. Take a cab cause u can't access there wit metro. Time square is another one, sha reach the foot of burj khalifa too.. Google this places for specific address and google map that will help u locate the closest metro station to where u are goin to with the help of metro map which should be the first thing u should pick sef. For shopping, diera is cheap but becareful wit naija people as in ehhhh... Worst is naija and indian collabo. If I rem more amma holla. Have a wonderful time
