When i was a child i was told to close my eyes in prayers .or else angels will poke finger into my eyes. Is it scriptural to close eyes in prayer? What is the origin?

Good question.

For me closing eyes is normally during quiet times and some other formal prayer, I find that I can concentrate better with my eyes closed.

Otherwise for informal prayer, at work, walking, with family etc, I can pray with my eyes open , mostly in my mind.

Me think if it doesn't have any scriptural backing, then it's a personal issue. it's not a pre-requisite for receiving answers to prayers.

Personally when i close my eyes during prayer it helps me to be focused and i don't see some distracting activities around me.

What about when you had to jam your hands together to pray. Methinks it is a sign of supplication. Whatever works to keep you focused.

Sometimes when I don't feel like closing my eyes, I simply bow my head and look down.

In my study I also observe that everywhere Jesus prayed ,he opened his eyes.

It has nothing to do with bible...its a personal thing. U think u will get better concentration by closing yr eyes while prayer, good for u. I think this thing of "closing eyes" is traced to catholic images of Jesus with his two hands clasped together, heads bowed and eyes closed.
