Please explain the e-voting system to people like me who don't know. I mean, how does it work? What's it like? Is it that people will vote on the internet or something? Thanks.

i dont realy know how it works. the little i know is that the internet is used as the ballot box. it has got to cope with hackers and spoofers. its a big challange tro design and secure a reliable electronic voting system.

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has adopted the ElectronicVoting System (EVS), for the 2007 general election.

Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, at the launch of the commission's National Stakeholders Election Forum in Abuja yesterday said: "I constituted a committee to produce the major imperatives for successful conduct of the 2007 elections.

"At its sitting on July 20, the commission decided that the time has come for the introduction of technology in our nation's electoral process. Accordingly, the commission has formally adopted the Electronic Voting System (EVS) as the method it will use for the 2007 polls."

He, however, said the commission needed to study the various options of the mechanised voting system as pilot project. According to him, the introduction of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), as part of the EVS in 2007 elections will depend on the outcome of the pilot project.

He pledged the commission's readiness to provide basic electoral services to Nigerians in a timely, fair, honest, effective and transparent manner. Iwu also announced that a Servicom Unit had been established and that its charter would be launched shortly.

Do you guys call what we had an e-voting system, ?
, We should ask our selves if we have the data of registrars before the election
and comparing the result with the outcome.To say we had an electronic voters register
is an unfair joke to me, Please!!!!!!!!!!!

a nation of 150million people that generates only 4,000MW of electricity in a year, wants to do e-voting.

grin grin grin

what a laughable pack of people
Re: The E-voting system by angel101(f): 12:56pm On Jun 15, 2007
Actually they claim that is want was done in april (last (s)elections) cheesy
Re: The E-voting system by denex: 1:43pm On Jun 15, 2007
@babasin

I don't really know, but don't you think in general, the e-voting system would be cheaper.

I mean, people registering and voting at cyber centres as opposed to the government buying new registration computers, ballot boxes and hiring at least 2 million agents for 2 months to register voters, supervise elections and finally count votes.
Re: The E-voting system by babasin(m): 9:30pm On Jun 15, 2007
@denex

e-voting raises lot of question; one is your identity.

1 Fundamental of election: INEC should not know who Mr A votes for.

so how will they know that Mr A is truly a Nigerian and he is not same as Mr B. Since he has to autheticate himself on the e-vote machine and there is record.

2. there is no electricity

3. what stop any DBA to do: "update 'vote_table' set total-votes = 36Million where candidate = 'yaradua'"
with this simple statement, election is rigged.

So Nigeria should not be talking about this at all.

cool grin cool

I honestly believe that with fingerprint records, identity should not be much of a problem.

Anyway, let's be honest, if you were made the chairman of INEC and mandated to ensure the use of e-voting, are you telling me there's nothing you can do?

@denex,

Anyway, let's be honest, if you were made the chairman of INEC and mandated to ensure the use of e-voting, are you telling me there's nothing you can do?

Finger print as used in last election is ok, your identity is secured. for rigging: any voting-paper with same finger prints will be auto-cancelled

To know who really won:

1. lets inec bring all the voting papers

2. they take it to large hall; put journalist, camera, screnn

3. validate each finger print on the machine; if double tripple match found; cancel that vote

4. the remaining single finger-printed votes determines the winner.

simple but since naija is dishonest. they wont do it.

ok
Re: The E-voting system by Imani(f): 1:17am On Jun 17, 2007
Nigeria is not ready for e-voting. The manual system is being sabotaged by unscrupulous officials so imagine the scale they will be able to perpetuate their atrocities with the aid of the Internet.

We need to get our priorities right. This is similar to the setting up of an "open" university when the "physical" ones are currently in shambles.

There are more pressing issues to be dealt with.
Re: The E-voting system by NaijaFuss(m): 4:39pm On Jun 19, 2007
Don't you think e-voting should mean collection of database of info that can be accessed at any location for verification and subsequent voting,

How did the e-voting as acclaimed make the election process different than previous ones,

Make we no bull ourselves jare, na just for the bucks joo

they adopted blah blah blah, and it was still a failure.
