Where did you get the instruction to make an image of Mary and Christ?

The same place where Joshua got instruction to fall prostrate before the graven images of the cherubs in the Ark.

Every normal child should not depend solely on the parents too.
Fulfilling God's will should be their main objectives. Our earthly parents are never mere "vessels", if they were, God wouldn't tell us to honour them. Jesus certainly held his Mother in high esteem.
