So My Home Ip-address Can't Access Nairaland.....why's That? by PROUDIGBO(m): 12:47am On Feb 12, 2013
So what's up with me not being able to access this website from my home ip-address? I can view this website from from my neighbours; from my IPad and phone; and from just about any other place but home, so am i the only one with this 'issue' (i think i know the answer to that wink).

Looks like i've touched a raw nerve with one or two peeps that can't handle some good old-fashioned abuse and they've pulled some strings to 'try' and get shot of that pesky 'Igbo'. I have one or two people i suspect could be the culprits; and if it turns out to be true that my IP has been singled out and banned, then it just goes to show that this website is anything but naira -land! I've long suspected that some of these e-warriors are either 'high up there' (and have multiple monikers for getting 'dirty') or are close to someone 'high up', as the way my replies to them are quickly hidden is a good pointer to this being the case (and i don't target ethnicities but i'm quite generous and liberal with the abuse when it's some bigoted small-minded twerp).

I don't think there'll be any need to remain a member of this site if it turns out that i've been singled out testing what could be some new Ip-address banning software. smiley

So is anyone else having this same 'issue'?

^^^Don't worry, all bills are fully paid (direct debit), and i didn't piggy-back on anyones wi-fi as well.....i'm afraid it looks to be something more sinister; no one else seems to be experiencing this so far.

@Baba_Eleko: Bros thanks for the heartfelt advice, but soaking garri garnished with kuli-kuli is where i draw the line; they can keep their 'nairaland' if my ip- address isn't 'unbanned'.

I had this same issue when I was in Nigeria. Nairaland and some other websites couldn't open on my PC but they opened on my phone. This was happening to all of us using the same internet provider. I found this out because I called my uncle and my friend who happened to be using the same internet provider and they said the same thing. The fault was from the company, some IP address/server ish. So you might wanna call your internet provider and find out where the problem is from.

@Dude Negor's advice...

I dumped my old IP and changed to a new one, all to no avail. OP, try it first though before calling up the company.

are you on a wireless router or ethernet plug-in?

some manufacturers are expanding functionalities on their modem/routers and this impacts port management.

if you have any equipment in a serial configuration with your computer then you should look into port forwarding or dmz.

do this,
plug your computer directly into the ethernet port of the modem and see if you can log in to nl.

if no success, unplug it and turn on wifi on laptop. use a different wifi network (not your home network) and see if successful.

if neither is successful, try a system restore.
if that doesnt work, do a dmz or call your ISP and have them do it for you.

you sound very paranoid.
go and check your internet bill like ileke-idi suggested.
and maybe your IP was banned. and so? you are not the first and won't be the last.
are you getting "Gateway 504" error? I get that when NL doesn't work for me.

Freewilly: You should be happy it's only IP they are targeting.You can never be too careful with those offemmanu folks, I'm just saying ohhhhhh!!

@OP

To the best of my knowledge, NL managers no longer ban posters' IP addresses since the start of the New NL.

So check with your ISP.

There was a time I had a problem browsing some sites (not including NL) except I go through a proxy, complained to my ISP and got a call after about an hour from them to try the sites again and I was able to browse.

The same thing happened to me. For the period I was having the problem, I used a proxy- anonymouse.org.

How is an IP changed?

Only your Internet provider can change it. Although, an alternative option is a proxy ip

Trust me you're in no position to talk about bigotry seeing as you're one of the torch bearers: just compare your past posts and mine for say the last three months, and it'll dawn on you just how hideous you are.

Small-minded juvenile twerp!

Cheers.

Why are we so quick to think negatively? Who says you are the only one. It may be a DNS issue. Are you having difficulty with Internet explorer? Try Chrome and/or Mozilla and see if it works. Couple months ago, i couldnt access nairaland at my home as well except via my phone or tablet or anywhere else but my house. I thought it was comcast acting up. I ended up using googles dns and it worked. Fastforward to now, i can't access nairaland using internet explorer at home but as soon as i pop up chrome/firefox, voila, it comes on. I'm sure you're having a similar issue. I doubt anyone is blocking your IP address. Come on son, it's not like anyone is losing or gaining money by blocking you.

The problem may be because of your location, I had the same issue some time ago and called my service provider to change the IP address, then with https://www.showmyip.com/ I saw that everything is alright, and I could enter the nairaland community, I was really happy.

You are right, it is because of location, I did the same as you and everything worked, but I had a VPN.
