Why do Catholics pray "through" the name of Jesus instead of "in" the name of Jesus?

Why don't all pray directly to God, without going through or using any creation's name? Afterall, you have a direct relationship to God> Evereyone should be able to communicate with Him!

You should direct pray to God father instead of Jesus and his mother. and never associate with God father that make you believer as a human.

in this context, what is the difference btw ''in'' and ''through''.
Re: Why Don't Catholics Pray "in" The Name Of Jesus? by donbuchi1(m): 9:47am On Mar 13, 2008
this will narrow the issue so that we do not mis-understand one another. in and through any difference?

Please take care not to confuse the Roman Catholic Church with the Catholic Church (Catholic on its own mean universal)

What does the Bible say: I quote Jesus: "What ever you ask the Father in My name, ". This is why we pray in the Name of Jesus. Prior to Jesus's resurrection prayers where generally made through prophets and priests. And people did not have access to God except through them Now as christians, we have already gone through him (accepted his sacrifice) and are in Gods presence. We do not need to pray through Him anymore(since during the second birth we went through Him already) but only in his name (as our position has already been established by Him)

Simple logic: Legally things are established by people. And done in their name not thought their name. "I come in the name of Ceasar" is a typical example. Means we have exactly the same authority as Ceasar in that situation ie we are running his errands.

People lets be wise. wink

@Fotodaddy: {quote]Simple logic: Legally things are established by people. And done in their name not thought their name. "I come in the name of Ceasar" is a typical example. Means we have exactly the same authority as Ceasar in that situation ie we are running his errands.

So what you are doing is running the errand of Jesus? But Jesus did not send you as an errand person to God in the prayer you are making in his name. Or idi he? You see Jesus is wiser that you. He prayed directly to God. Infact, he taught you Christian the Lord's prayer, without asking you to make that prayer through his name. If you look at this masterpiece, the Lord's prayer and othe prayers that you make, they contradict each other. I am confident to say that Jesus did not say that you should pray to God through his name, for he would have modified the Lord's prayer protocol, to be inclusive of that final instructions. Rather it is the zealot among the early followers who as in most things exagerated Jesus position and try so much to foster the Salvation position that they so much wanted.

But every prophet/messenger held the same position with his followers, the people who are covered under the period of prophethood. If they believed, they are saved! Pharaoh and his army did not believe Moses, so perished, whereas those Children of Israel who believed in salvation ability of Moses by God's permission at the crossing of the sea, were saved. Well some of them died as saved souls. Others among them later sinned and were perished.

Jesus was not the only one who ever held the office of salvation. However, his office authority began when he began his Gospel ministry as he preached about. The office ended as MuhammadAbdallah began his own prophetic calling. Only MuhammadAbdallah (AS), prophetic authority will extend till the end of time. All previous prophets authority of salvation, Jesus included are already ended.

People lets be wise.

You are mis-understanding my comments. We do not run errands for Jesus but carry out His errands.

Everyone to your own opinions.

People be wise (And I reserve the right to this by-line), olabowale take note and be wise. grin
Re: Why Don't Catholics Pray "in" The Name Of Jesus? by olabowale(m): 2:32pm On Mar 13, 2008
@fotodaddy; You are right. You carry out his errand. What happened to the Lord's prayer? You carry out his errend here or not? Why not the phrase that you carry out all others here?
Re: Why Don't Catholics Pray "in" The Name Of Jesus? by fotodaddy: 5:55pm On Mar 13, 2008
@Olabowale
PLease do not take this personal but you are not a christian so you cannot be expected to understand spiritual things. wink You may refer to the Bible in 2 Corinthians 3 verse 6

If you are really interested in having an understanding and not just arguing, you may mail me personally at oekanu@yahoo.com after having refered to the John Chapter 14 verses 12 to 14.

People be wise grin

When we ask in the name of Jesus we are not running errands for Him. We are using the authority of His name to get whatever we want done. Because we cannot do it in ourselves. And we are not supposed to pray without the name of Jesus because Jesus instructed us not to. Simple as that.

They lack UNDERSTANDING
Re: Why Don't Catholics Pray "in" The Name Of Jesus? by PastorAIO: 4:38pm On Apr 02, 2008
We should consider the fact that the bible in english is a translation, firstly. The prayer books of the catholics are translations too, from latin. And also language has always evolved whereby certain words do not carry the connotations they once carried when they were previously used. With these considerations in mind I realise that it is pointlessly pedantic to try to make a distinction between In and Through. The person praying to his God knows his intent. Besides it is not everyone that says Lord Lord is referring to the same Lord that you refer to when you say Lord.

We can all get clever and play semantics till we are blue in the face and the malus come home but it is not going to achieve anything. Except perhaps give us a transient sense of vindication, or intellectual superiority.

Mary is their mediator between ? and them

Mary is their mediator between ? and them

I like the ? part , grin

By the way , the actually truth is that Mary is not even the person they are worshipping. Is actually Semeramis (Mother of Nimrod) (check history books).

What they are doing is to just merely use the name of Mary as a cover up,

its similar to if a person decides to call his own traditional shigidi by name "Peter", it does not actually mean that Peter told them to worship him , neither does it mean that they are actually worshipping Peter . Rather it only goes to show that they are trying to deceive unsuspecting people with the name of Mary, in the hope that people without discernment who dogmatically think that since Mary was the mother of Jesus then those people might think that the worship of the statue called "Mary" might be true.

Unfortunately its not,

The intentions to pray to Mary , pray through Mary or whatever , just shows another example of why the idolatous ways of catholism is completely contradictory to the bible.

Jesus Christ clearly makes it 100% clear that when we pray (converse with God or ask anything from God) , that we must ask in His name .

Not in the name of Mary,
Not in the name of Peter
Not in the name of James
Not in the name of John
Not in the name of Alllah
Not in the name of the Pope
Not in the name of Hope
Not in the name of Love
Not in the name of Peace
, blah, blah , blah , blah

Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Joh 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Joh 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Joh 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

rather that: we must simply ask the Father (God the Father) in Jesus Christ's name, simple
