Committee On Traffic Surveillance Camera Inaugurated by Phikom(m): 8:22am On Feb 20, 2013
Abuja – The Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja inaugurated a national implementation committee on Traffic Camera Surveillance and Safety Certification Scheme to prevent risk and accident

Under the scheme, smart cameras would be deployed on the roads to assist in the reduction of serious and fatal speed-related road accidents and unethical behaviours.

The scheme is a Public Private Partnership championed by the Risk and Accident Prevention Society of Nigeria (RAPSON), an NGO, in collaboration with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values.

Inaugurating the committee, Dr Sarah Jibril, the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values, said that if every Nigerian would abide by the law, many lives would be saved.

β€œOne needs autonomous morality, one needs to police oneself and be law abiding in order to be a responsible citizen,’’ she said.

The presidential Aide, however, urged Nigerians to embrace attitudinal change and ethical values to ensure the rapid development of the country.

Looo . . .ng overdue! Countries like japan,south korea,china name them have trafic/security camera installed almost after every 60m in all roads. Wont be bad if nigerian followed same on developed roads while also developing/constructing other roads to follow same. BOKO HARAM MENANCE WOULD HAVE BEEN GARGANTOUSLY CHECKED,IF THERE WERE SECURITY CAMERAS ON NORTHERN ROADS. We are rich enough to handle this, if only bad belle govt officials wont redirect the funds.

What a waste of our Money!!

So the Camera catches a Honda CRV doing 140 Km/h on a 60 Km/h road. What would happen?!

If it were abroad, here is how it would work;

1. The license plate of the car will be photographed and ran through their Database to finds its owner.

2. A picture showing the car and the recorded speed will be sent to the house of the owner via mail/post.

3. A ticket will be sent to the owner via mail as well.

4. Depending on the level, the owner may have to appear in court.

#Thats it..

In Nigeria, where there is no electricity, no datebase, no Post office/ mailing address howw would this work?@!

LOL!!

Well, there are Post Offices in Nigeria, but how well do they function?! Start a Poll and ask Nigerians the last time they used Government Post Offices or the last time they recieved any government mails?!

And the New Plate number thing you speak of is still useless.

Do you know why a Police crusier is able to catch a driver that has unpaid parking tickets or a felony out on him in the UK & US?!!

Answer below:

You see a Police Cruiser, it comes fully equipped with a computer that is still hooked up to the internet. Thats why a police car driving along a quiet sleepy neighbourhood and simply just upload all the number plates of all the cars on the street and get info on their owners.

Who here has tried to get a Nigerian License recently?! Im talking about the new License o!! What you hear almost always is; THE SYSTEM/SERVER IS DOWN. Is this how we want to work?! Look at a Nigerian Police cruiser;

Most dont even have a functioning 'radio' (Walkie-Talkie) talkless of having computers.

Let us first of all repair the Law enforcement agencies. Let the Police be re-trained and this time properly, be fully equipped with an assortment of tools and be well kitted. Lets start with putting up road signs on our roads. Proper road signs this time. Go on an awareness campaign. Lets start with simple speed guns and roadblocks. Jumping from A to Z approach is just dead azz wrong. The Nigerian Government need to learn how to do things properly. There is something known as due process...

Nigeria has not reached CCTV level just yet. No NEPA, No good local security (so someone would even steal all those cameras finish), No good internet, No good database, Poorly trained personnel, e.t.c.. Correct the smaller details before bringing in the advanced stuff.

Why is a committee required , I was of the opinion that FRSC, Nigerian Police force ,LASTMA and Nigerian Army exist and can put together a task force of experts and involve knowledgeable civilians to research and deploy the necessary system.

THIS IS A COMMITTEE FOR FRAUDULENT EMBEZZLEMENT
