Nollywood Is Now Developing Websites For Movies! by yawatide(f): 11:47am On Mar 07, 2013
I may have arrived late but at any rate, I was doing my normal morning online news runs when I stumbled across the latest movie starring Ini Edo and Tonto Dike, "Playing Safe". At the end of the trailer, which is on youtube, they posted the movie's website. I decided to check it out and voila! the site actually exists: http://www.playingsafemovie.com/

I hope this is a new and lasting trend for nollywood and most importantly, a new and steady income stream for us web developers...not the 5K to 10K kind o, he he

^^^ yeah, actual site critique wasn't a part of this. I would rather, at this point, revel in the fact that we are "getting there" as a previous poster has mentioned. The time for critiques will come, trust me wink

Maybe not now, but we will. Remember how the industry itself started: For example, you could tell what an entire was about merely looking at the poster tongue Now, they have greatly improved, with many movies introducing elements of surprise cheesy

Well they should, all hollywood movies has got a website and in some cases interactive web apps for their movies.
This helps in box office and that's one of the reason why a james bond movie can be grossing a billion dollars and the producers may seem disappointed and then one movie here starring omortola ( I think flight to abuja or so) made just about $20,000 and them nor allow us rest for nigeria.

The websites actually easy to create. They're templates.

But all the same, it looks like they're starting to put a lot more seriousness in their work.
Also, if you noticed, their movie posters are improving as well...

Check out posters for "Two Brides and a Baby" as well as "Damage" (the latter starring Uche Jombo and Kalu Ikeagwu) to see what I mean.

If Nollywood works more on their storyline and movie plots, they will make more sense. I see a good future in the Nigeria movie industry, if it's stakeholders know what they are doing.
Btw, what's d point of the websites if their movies are low grade, who go visit the website? Na d illetrates wey dey watch deir films?

I think Nollywood movies online is now the new Gold Rush, even though I wont blame them as the market is growing rapidly with viewers ready to be monetized. Developing a site for every movie though doesn't sound sustainable. They will finally amalgamate them to one destination or just seal online movie distribution deals with the Nigerian movies streaming sites like IrokoTV or http://9flix.com

African TV and Nollywood has slacked for a while, but thank God they are now embracing the Internet!

Nigerian movie website is now "the thing" and almost everyone is doing it.. happy the movie makers are taking things into their own hands before Youtube bans all Nigerians for posting like 500 shocked different copies of every Nollywood movie title to it's servers undecided

The movie makers will make it more organized. The future looks very bright that almost everyone wants in even MTN by investing in and partnering with AfriNolly. Nollywood should take matters into their own hands or at least partner with the bigger players like they have done with IrokoTV and like African TV producers are doing with http://9flix.com (check out the screenshot, I like this site's viewing experience).

Believe it or not, The Web is the future and good for them they've started making there presence felt. smiley
