striktlymi: Good evening Pagan,

grin

I don't know the particular 'brand' of pagan religion (May be you can help out here). All I know is that we had this river 'goddess' called 'Ise' who we go to worship at specific periods.

Good day,

ok wait, i Remember. you follow Afemai Religion.
Ok so you used to worship River spirits. does that mean you never went to church? that you were purely Pagan?

Yes, I was born into it and practiced it too. Actually, my grand dad (Fathers side) was a high chief in our village and a respected 'traditionalist' and 'seer' while my grand dad (mothers side) was the Okumagbe (King) of Weppa and Uwanno who also was a 'strong man'. You can say, paganism ran in the family.

ok great. so what prompted you to accept man-worship and leave traditional Spirituality?

I am sorry brother. I probably didnt notice your thread. Also I am a follower of Hausa religion. My knowledge of Ifa Orisha, though vast, is not in-depth. Howeever if you need me to draw parallels with Universal Pagan Religions, certian explanations, etc., I can do.

THis was why our brother stryktlymi here immediately refused to help you in this matter. He too follows( followed/eternally confused (?) ) a different Pagan religion and probably doesnt have much indepth knowledge of Ifa Orisha as me. We dont even speak that language. You must catch a Yoruba speaking Pagan worshipper for that.

Purely pagan when my grand dad was still around!

Well I will leave out the details but it started with jealousy and envy which lead to the wrong use of some 'spiritual powers'; and also some personal encounters with some 'good forces' were involved.

what about your parents, brothers,sisters,etc.

thats strange. ok so you think you can survive alone at the whim of good forces? you think that will make you a soft teddybear? wake up! Learn to recognise both the Forces. neither can exist without the other. do you know that bad forces can be used for the right cause as well?

Parents started out as pagans...for brothers and sisters: some started as pagans while some came along when my parents embraced Christianity. Though some of my relatives are still pagans.

Yea strange! I have seen a lot of strange things that puts 'logic' to shame.

I am up! I know for a fact that both forces exists. I have witnessed both first hand! I also know for a fact that it is very possible to be pagan and be good. I believe firmly that honest sincere and good pagans who are good in line with right conscience can make heaven too without being Christians. God has changed my path and I am following him on this path he has led me to. I consider it a privilege.

ok now you are confusing me. you behave like a Pagan and are xtian. its ok. i wont convince you further. you have a Pagan mindset. when you feel like it, you will yourself revert to Trad. Religion.

just dont let your culture and your ppls beliefs die. you could still do all the rituals ,etc for namesake just to keep it alive and as Tribal Duty. Many people in Asia, for example, do that.

Tribal culture, ideolgy and religion all depend on each other for survival.

do you known even the Grand Shrine of Goddess Amaterasu, in Japan, is known as Ise ?

for some reason, there are so many Japanese words in South Nigerian Languages. it is strange.

Oga striktlymi,

Happy weekend.

I have a few questions. Permit to start with this first;

What, if any, are the similarities and differences between Christianity and paganism?

musKeeto: Oga striktlymi,

The boss don show!!! I throway salute sir!

Well from my experience, some of the notable similarities would be:

1) Belief in and worship of 'deities'.
2) 'Structured' moral code for good and evil.
3) Belief in life after death.

Let's make do with those 3 to make it simple.

Some notable differences would be:

1) Christianity only accepts one deity as good and supreme while the others are evil. Pagans accept one supreme deity who approves of and work together with other lesser deities.

2) The Christian is more concerned about punishment in the life after while the pagan is more concerned about punishment in the present life for a life of 'sin'.

3) Reward is heaven for the Christian but the pagan believes in joining the ancestors in dignity.

Note that these might be different for some other pagan.

Alfamann: There must be something wrong somewhere because striktlymi is one of the most illogical characters I have seen on nairaland. He is no atheist and actually well represents christianity in its glory of hypocrisy and false modesty.
His only quality is that he can congugate a few understandable sentences despite being a christian, and that's saying a lot.
He always starts with the false greetings which no one asked for, and which nobody needs but which in his christian head, he finds necessary to impose on the rest of us.
He dodges questions with the oldest trick in the book: answering a question with a question. It is not logic. It is "christian intelligence".
Now that this thread was about to open his nyash, he wants it all hush hush. Private pm. Personal matter.
You mr striktlymi, are a hypocrite.
Your useless greetings don't impress me.
