Tribute to Hugo Chavez Last Tuesday, 5 March 2013 the world, especially Venezuelans lost one of the most prolific and enigmatic leaders to have come from Latin America. As I watch Venezuelans mourn their leader Hugo Chavez, I ask myself should this happen in my country Nigeria or any of the African countries, will their citizens mourn over the demise of their leaders or would they rather take to the streets in jubilation? Ladies and gentlemen, Hugo touched the lives of the ordinary man on the streets of Venezuela. The mourners are sincere in their mourning; they were not rented by the government. They know that they have indeed lost a leader, who was bold and very daring. Whether America and the western world love him or not, Hugo gave life a meaning to the common man in his country and left a mark that will be very difficult to erase. Although he may have his shortcomings (this is true for all humans), but there is no doubt that he will be remembered long after he is gone by many of his countrymen and women not for his wealth or riches, but for adding values to their lives, especially the young people who had unfettered access to free qualitative education from primary schools to university level. He left his country better than he met it. We will only be remembered by what we have done and the lives we have touched. I join the millions of Venezuelans and all those who love the preservation and restoration of the dignity man to mourn this great man – Hugo Chavez. 1 Like |
