Olamide by Nobody: 8:58pm On Mar 17, 2013
It was a market day.The whole place bustling with brisk commercial activity. It had started early with lorries bringing foodstuffs and other items from the surrounding villages.By mid morning, the market was in full swing.Whatever one wanted to buy,one had had variety to choose from. The foreigners were inclined towards local products while the local residents rushed for imported goods.
The market was generally noisy on days like this and one could hear one's own voice above the cacophony. And the noisiest of all were the women who sold bush meat. They were the most quarrelsome and were more freer with their tongue.Whenever a batch of hunters arrived with their catch, they rushed in the attempt to grab the best to buy.A scramble ensued and insulting words were freely exchanged. If a hunter brought a poor game,he got his fair share of insults and if he refused to dispose of his fish at a rock bottom price, the insult was more vulgar.
As dusk began to fall women packed up their unsold wares and counted their gains and put them pack in knots created at the tip of their cloths. The shoppers hurried out of the market while the market women balanced their unfinished wares onto their head to join the hustle of finding buses to their respective destination.
One person who refused to join the hustle was Olamide. She stood rooted to the ground while she waited for Obi,her sweetheart.

The clouds began to darken and Olamide was really getting impatient. She should have been home by now preparing supper for her father. She raised her head and looked into the skies again.
"If he doesn't get here by the count of twenty i'll have no option than to go"she said to her self.
"Olamide!sorry i kept you waiting, hope you havent waited for too long"He asked with a worried face.
"Not too long, but i've to get going. It's late and papa has to eat".
"Okay let me help you with the trays"He offered as he wipped off an imaginary sweat on her face.
He opened the boot of the car wher he dump the trays and rushed to open the door for his queen.
"How was market today"he asked as he started the engine.
"Since all my wares are finished i cannt complain".
They drove on in silence as Obi stole glances at her once in a while admiring her.Soon they got to her house and Obi offered to help her carry her trays inside but she refused since she knew her father was against the relationship.
"Why dont we meet at Clara's house. She wouldnt mind" she suggested.
"Olamide!are you now coming"she heard her father asking as he moved towards them.
"you have to go now, fast before my father sees you"she whispered anxiously.
"Okay, see you at Clara's place then".
With this words he sped off as Olamide gazed at the dust that was left behind.
"Are you now coming back?"Her father asked.
"Papa i had trouble getting a bus withh all those people arond.Remember today was a market day".
"Were you able to sell everything?"he inquired
"Yes papa but we can have all this talk after i have finished cooking. It's getting late and i'm sure you are hungry"With this she sped of into her room to change.
