Hi, Could someone please help point out if the VW Touareg 2008 V6 is a good car. A friend wants to buy one and on consulting with his mechanic, the guy says "He will cry" because of the cars electronic system. I rather think all cars are going electronic so its just laziness from the mechanic. He currently drives a hyundai santa fe 2007 and being an accident car, he has a lot of issues regularly from the front wheel where the impact was, asides from that everything looks fine. He recently got an offer to trade that in and get the Touareg, is it a good deal and is the car a good car? Does someone in the house have it and what are the issues with it if any? I used V/w Touareg 2004 product.The challeges with the SUV is getting a good mechanic or Electrician.Mine is still lying with mechanic now as am advice to get another engine due to compications from what mechanics did on it.If he has a good mechanics fine option but if not let him look further for simpler Japanese product . |

The V6 has timing chain issues. Quite prevalent, and unfortunately due to its location (at the rear of the engine) replacement requires the engine and transmission to be removed, and separated, to gain access to the flexiplate, which needs to be remove to acces the crankshaft sprocket. I would go for the 4,2 V8 up to 2008. It's belt-driven, and replacement is so much easier, and it doesn't suffer from worn guides and tensioners as the 3,2 V6 does. Performance is way better than that of the V6 too. |

Thanks @Sienna and Diamondboa. @Sienna, the offer he has is for the V6 so i think its better he just buy another car. Its his life savings and he would be worried about it forever if it is not a good deal. Thank a lot also for the quick replies, but did i mention the car was bought new buy its first owner and that he is simply selling it because he now has a 2012 version. Please let me know if this changes any opinions! |

Thanks Sienna, I did tell my friend its not a good car. We went to the car lot today and got a Honda Accord 2009 2.4 full options. Is this a better alternative and how would you rate this car. The only downside i see is the height is a bit different to the SUV. What would you advice! |
