I just wonder O ? I was on the train the other day, and saw this old friend of my primary school days, we got chatting, I was so eager to catch up more about her untill she told me she now attends a white garment church, my face fell at that point, I could't hide it, and she noticed, I apologised for this but she said I wouldn't be the first that she's used to such expressions as soon as she tells people .

I haven't spoken to her since then anyway. but really I just wonder because, I am not a Bloke ! and I just wonder what the poor girl would be going through if she doesn't find a partner in her church . but really I just need to know people's honest response to this: on which would you consider a second date? why and why not?

The prejudice within christianity gathers momentum. It is not enough to discriminate against your fellow human being because they are of a different faith, but now it has to be against fellow human beings of the same faith, because of the kind of attire worn in their various churches!Na wa!All for christ,i guess.

Well, if I were Christian, I would shoot myself in shame. So, I won't actually get to the position of choosing between a Muslim or White Garment partner.

Discriminate ? According to this girl she also claimed I wouldn't be the first person to act the way I did, she actually said it as well that people had to get close to know her personalities well enough b4 fully accepting her, honestly I also wonder o, D funny thing is that I do have muslims as friends but I just get quite scared  and a little bit unsure of white garment sects lipsrsealed maybe the way I was raised or probably the news WE all hear, here & there (u can't deny this can u ? ). I had this discussion with a couple of guys and they also claimed they normally wouldn't go back on a 2nd date if they also discover  this on a new girl (why?),   As  for me, I feel, I can still get on with a muslim with a mind of encouraging him to my church but a WHITE GARMENT Bloke  ?

Could you make your response clearer please, I didn't get u ?
Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by GL(f): 3:32am On May 12, 2006
The issue here is doctrinal differences, not discrimination. The bible doesn't distinguish between non-believers. The bible advocates marrying someone who shares ur faith in God to avoid trouble in future. If you marry a muslim as a christian, either you or your spouse have to leave ur faith. If you both decide to remain in ur respective religions, when u have kids how do u raise them. For nominal muslims/christians, this may not matter much. But for those who are very much involved in their religion and want to worship their God with their families, inter-religious marriage cannot work.

To answer the question: I won't even consider any. I don't hate muslims or white garment ppl, but our doctrinal differences are so great that one religion would have to give way for another for there to be agreement. There are several christian groups with different doctrines. Where the doctrinal difference is very significant, I wouldnt marry. Not because I think they're bad or they're not christians, but because it would be difficult to find a meeting point. For example, Mormons or Jehova's Witnesses, who have their own way of life. Anyone marrying someone in either of these religions must be prepared to live that lifestyle.

I never thot this would be as hard as it is now. Why is there no none?

okay i choose the cele guy. They have good 'ikore' parties at cele churches. Like every other 3 weeks, so i think i choose cele. For the ikore parties that is. wink

Can someone please define White Garment Church? Is it animism or Christianity? Also, I don't consider Mormons to be Christians. To me it's a cult, only slightly less scary than The Church of Scientology -- for them I cross the street.
Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by hotangel2(f): 6:16am On May 12, 2006
White garment churches.

Cherubiums and seraphuims? Or however it's spelled.

Celestial church of God. U know all those cele churches?

Some wear shoes, while others say no shoes, some wear v-neck gowns, while others wear round neck gowns, and others wear four corner (squared) neck gowns. Some use red belt, while others use yellow/blue belts.
Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by Zahymaka(m): 6:18am On May 12, 2006
White garment churches:

1. Go shoeless (they worship without shoes).

2. Wear white robes [hence the term 'white garment']

3. Generally have some other 'rituals' -- like worshipping only close to water [eg at the beach]. An example would be the Aladuras.

I was waiting for someone to ask that. They practically made Bar beach in Lagos their home. Never a night when I went to sleep without hearing their bells chiming in the distance. smiley

Thanks Hot-angel. I did some reading b/c I don't want to jump to any conclusions. Honestly, though it is usually compared to Pentecostalism it sounds like being Baptist w/ the speaking in tongues and laying down of hands. Not my cup of time -- and I've been to many Baptist churches living down here in the Bible belt -- but I wouldn't judge someone too harshly for it. I'd look at the way they lived their life and how they treated people before I reinforced or lifted my reservations. Like I said before, Baptists and Pentecostals do the same think w/ "healing" and "visions" and "GET THE BEHIND ME SATAN!". So many times as a kid when I my hair was being braided I had to watch "Jesus TV" and every other sentence this big bouffant blond haired lady w/ eyelashes down to her bosom would say "THE DEVIL IS A LIAR" in her proud-to-be-Texan twang. I had to bite myself -- almost through my lower lip -- to keep from laughing but the lady and all the other viewers were in earnest.

As for dating a WHITE GARMENT CHURCH man? I could do it. I could marry one. As long as he understood that that's not what I believed or what my children would believe. They could attend church events w/ him but it wouldn't be our primary or sole religious doctrine. I guess he's the one who wouldn't want to be w/ me in the end.

Random: I just goggled "White Garment Church" and lots of different documents came up. I read some. It seems these churches worry the Republic of Ireland. LOL.

Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by chinani(f): 6:58am On May 12, 2006
@Mochafella
I had to ask. You know, a CD of their songs & prayers will prolly be playing at Starbucks or something.

@Topic
Is this based on Yoruba animism? I ask b/c, weren't Yoruba priests of yesteryear usually clothed in white robes? On another note, some of the black professors at my Uni had to, rather chose, to wear white clothes for a year so that they could complete the process to become "Priestesses". I only understood them to be following "Yoruba traditional" b/c I missed the Black Student Assc meeting where talked about it. But a group of my friends who went dismissed these profs as ridiculous nut cases. Later on another friend told me that the Professors actually some passionately about their quest from childhood -- literally w/ their parents -- to go back and find a "black religion" to escape from the "lies of the White man". It's important to note that these women professors came of age during the 60s & 70s. This friend also said that she thought bad review my the 1st group of girls were b/c the Profs inadvertently stereotyped Yoruba ppl and made it sound like it was "their" religion and that "they" 100% into it. They were embarrassed I guess. Anyhow, this White Garment Church is in yankee too. But I think it's seen & practiced more as one's personal politics.

um, I think not . It was traumatising enough back then. I'll rather get lulled to sleep by some Lighthouse family.

Probably not, but then I only observed from a distance. I found it weird that some people made the beach their permanent home and wore a uniform to church.

I would have said no to both but I've realised its wrong to generalise.
There will always be an exception. I'm currently dating a cute muslim
babe I was already attracted before I realised. Same could have happened with a white garment babe.

I guess they are all human beings. besides, I'm a guy so there is the tendency either of them will convert 2 wherever I belong. grin

Honestly, i would not marry any, no sentiments. People this is M A R R I A G E we are talking about. And before i would marry a guy, we just must be compatible in spiritual matters and da basic bible doctrines.
Av met a lotta muslims, have them as friends, but i can't venture into a lifetyme commitment! Thats a no no. No offence to da other folks pls.

Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by nemesisrev: 11:57pm On May 12, 2006
As a christain i would choose neither, sorry to any cele in the house but i know and have seen first hand the practises in cele and it will make the hairs in the back of you neck stand on ends. I state it is not christainity at all, its a cover for more sinister and bordering on the occult of wicca in nature.

My feeling on churches are we know it,is it is very hard to find a true place of worship, alot are watered down, self serving, places of deceit. if you believe in God/jesus for me its a personal thing . The reason you have so many places given the name church or why there are so many diff denominations is because, ppl have not taken time to read that bible properly and worship the way God instructed. Its there , they just chose to skim over .Thats why they give you one verse of a chapter for instance ''God says he will bless you exceedingly'' you hear they screaming this one verse not bothering to look at what was said before the verse and after, its most likely God said ''if you obey all my commands'' then i will bless you.

cant really go into it people will have to research it themselves, put it this way cele worshippers come with too much baggage, so do a lot of people who say they are christains. A christain is not what your parents pass down to you, but a true follower of christ
Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by gentleaura(m): 12:00am On May 13, 2006
I still dont understand why you shld judge ppl based on whatever religion they are praticising,

My sisters are big girls, yeah big girls, chaffeur driven n stuff, yet they have always been white garment church attendee. I dont see something wrong with that eh!
Re: Christians: Would You Prefer A Muslim Or A White Garment Partner? by dominobaby(f): 12:51am On May 13, 2006
@gentlelaura, its not as if one is being judgemental. Take a cele guy now, i can't marry such person because, when we've 2 pray and he insists on using candles and incense, what do i do? Of course i wouldn't agree, and can 'two walk together except they agree?' thats a definite NO N0.
