Hi Alex, A group of a pain-relieving drugs termed Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) still remain the analgesic drugs of choice for severe pain. They come in several generic names, but their active ingredients include; piroxicam, diclofenac etc. At this point however, I would strongly advise that you do not self-medicate as long-term use of these types of drugs have harmful effects on the body eg The GIT (inside the stomach) - where it can cause ulcers or worsen already existing ulcers and in tendons - where the abolished inflammatory response of the body caused by these NSAIDs lead to poor tendon healing. It will be advisable to seek your doctor's opinion on the type, dosage and a detailed explanation of the side-effects of these drugs. 2) The good news is that not all knee pain is attributable to arthritis.
