Myopia Of Atheism by PastorKun(m): 7:57pm On Apr 22, 2013
In a mother's womb were two babies. One asked the other: "Do you believe in life after delivery?" The other replies, "why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later. "Nonsense," says the other. "There is no life after delivery. What would that life be?" "I don't know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths." The other says "This is absurd! Walking is impossible. And eat with our mouths? Ridiculous. The umbilical cord supplies nutrition. Life after delivery is to be excluded. The umbilical cord is too short." "I think there is something and maybe it's different than it is here." the other replies, "No one has ever come back from there. Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery it is nothing but darkness and anxiety and it takes us nowhere." "Well, I don't know," says the other, "but certainly we will see mother and she will take care of us." "Mother??" You believe in mother? Where is she now? "She is all around us. It is in her that we live. Without her there would not be this world." "I don't see her, so it's only logical that she doesn't exist." To which the other replied, "sometimes when you're in silence you can hear her, you can perceive her." I believe there is a reality after delivery and we are here to prepare ourselves for that reality....

This story only makes sense because you have replaced a baby's mind with an adult's mind along with all the experiences of being an adult. It's just an adult in baby form. Else how would a baby know its legs are meant for walking? You don see pikin dey waka for womb before?

Cool story anyway... (btw, at the end, they both come out and mother loves them both.. wish we could say the same for Yahweh)

Why does it have to always go this way (presumptuous self-gratifying insults) - can no one simply take a step and look through the others eyes? is the goal always derision above understanding, tolerance and enlightenment?. If all fails can we not simply look to our positive contributions to the benefit of humanity?

it sounds like a "Feel-Good" story, meant to slyly massage your convictions into place or worse guilt-trip you into accepting a notion you might have questioned critically or at best doubted hesitantly.. cool story though.. very Feel-Good.. now where is that Bible grin

babies do not prepare themselves for delivery

they will both be delivered. It doesn't matter what they think; doesn't matter whether they worship mother or not:

the laws of nature will be obeyed

LOL...the conversation is funny lol.

I don't think the message is of literal intention - but rather comically showing the danger or (appropriately titled) myopia of drawing far reaching or definitive conclusions based only on what you know because what you know is limited in so many ways.

As an argument against atheism, it falls short.

As a feel-good story, it does well.

The miracles of evolution.

Staying with yahweh, what purpose do all the little things meant to test our faith, disasters, disease, plain old natural evil, etc, serve to an omnipotent god? What are vestigial organs doing in the designs of a perfect, omnipotent god? Why does an omniscient god need to test your faith?

etc, etc, etc....

baby can’t use science. if the babies could they could see their DNA is composed of 2 combined genetic samples. Mom and Dad. adults can test our world and it has no conclusive evidence yet .even in the womb evidence of mother can be found. but not one can be found of god. the analogy is invalid

Eagerly waiting to refute your 'deconstruction' that is if you understand the reasoning behind the story in the first place. So far a number of your fellow atheist have failed to comprehend the simple analogy in the story going by there comments. I don't expect any better from you.

Was there any punishment for the atheist baby after birth?

Did the mom (god) torture the non-believer baby (atheists) for it’s whole life (eternity) for it’s lack of faith after he’s born (dies)?

Moreover the babies know better than religious folks that God doesn't exist, that is why they came as atheists

This kinds of stories are meant for weak minds already in the bondage of religion......FREE YOUR MINDS FOLKS!

If its of literal intention, Why not call out your christian bother (paster kun) and tell him that this has nothing to do with atheism? Afterall, if it is about definitive conclusions all people, irrespective of beliefs have subjective biases that limits knowledge. Infact, it is usually religion thatdeals with certainty and definive conclusions-

“my god created the world” but you dont even know about thousands of other gods.

Why not stop trying to put up some false neutrality?

Why do you wish to deconstruct that story?

Is what that lies ahead after the womb very obvious to the babies?

With their level of intelligence can they be able to rationally deduce things outside the womb?

Compare them to fishes in their world in the water, can they be able to relate with our world on the surface, the sky, the outer space and beyond? That they cant, does that means that nothing exist beyond the water, the womb and outter space?

We as humans are living on planet earth, but we know that the earth is but a spec of dust in our galaxy and barely noticeable in the univers at large.

We as humans that live on planet earth can hardly know much off our planet and solar system let alone about the univers out there, that is very much like a fish in the water considering the world outside water.

We cannot survive on the outter space just as fishes cannot survive outside water and we both know next to nothing outside our world.

but the fish thinks it has mastery of the world around it?

What does the human person thinks about the world around him? Any difference from that of the fish?

A friend sent me this picture with the write up below one early sunday morning (although slightly modified but they carried the same message). Now i was out the night before and had a few too many pints. Woke up, saw the message and went back to sleep. I knew the logic was stupid but was just too drunk to think about it.
later that evening I replied him:

Since the babies have the mind to discuss such profound questions, they can also apply the scientific method to their legs and mouth and make logical conclusions on what the possible uses will be.
Given that their chance of death at birth is 50/50 (or even less) without medical assistance, Their query of life after birth is simply one of hope rather than certainty. If one baby says "i know mom is a white woman in her early 20's and she's gonna love me more than you if you don't believe she is white" Chances are, he is completely wrong and his idea of mom flawed from the start.

The second part of this reply shows how ridiculous the idea of someone being sure of life after death with nothing to show for it.
The last part makes it clear how numerous ideas of "god" float around, and if we get it wrong, we'll be sent to hell to suffer.

Either way, your analogy isn't sound and is lacking on so many levels. As usual, it is perfect for those that never want to think.
