Wow! This is a nice. I have been having problem with my color combo as well, my man wants to use cream color suit and black bow ties and am yet to decide on the color that my train will use although I had wanted orange and lemon green but right now am thinking of switching to cream and purple for my train. I don't know how the colors will blend, What do you think? Or if you have something different, let me know. Thanks
Re: Your Questions On Wedding Planning Answered! by Rocktation(f): 11:27pm On May 30, 2013
I provided a list of workable color combos on the first page. You may browse through and pick something nice. Or d'you have a fav color? I can help in finding more colors to compliment your fav.

From what I see beneath, the combo you're considering'd be just right!

Be careful with the cream color play, though. So your groom won't end up cream-coordinating too much with the bridesmaids, instead of you.
The design above is great, given that the purple's not subdued...
But I'd advice against making the cream overwhelming as is seen beneath- if your groom must wear a cream-colored attire.

@cuteoly, if u want to stick to cream and purple, here is a suggestion-

Make your bridesmaid wear a predominantly purple outfit.

Also if your groom uses a cream suit on black trouser (I'm assuming just the jacket will be cream because a complete cream colored suit may look too tacky on some men), let the groom's men use black suit with purple tie.

Also cream and purple seams a bit lackluster for someone who initially wanted orange and green, so why not change the cream to Champagne which is a creamy gold color and will bring out the purple.

Thanks @ Rock station, you can't imagine that I was actually trying to fix something like the dress on the 2nd pix for my train but I will have to change it now.

@ Sassygal and Rocktation, what about the groom using a black trouser, cream jacket and a black Bow tie as in below while the bridesmaid wears a purple missed with cream and the groom's men goes in a black suit, cream shirt and purple bow tie. And my train wearing a purple dress with a touch of cream. What do you think?

Wow! Seems like choosing a color is just as hard as finding the perfect wedding dress smiley

I need help with color combination. My fave color is Cranberry/wine/burgundy/maroon. It looks good on me, but I don't know about my fair-skined FI. He wants to wear the Hausa-styled 'fullah' hat. Is it better to match the burgundy hat with mine or he can wear a cardboard colored hat with burgundy dots on it? I love pearls. Can I wear pearls on African clothing or coral beads are better? Thank you!

Re: Your Questions On Wedding Planning Answered! by Rocktation(f): 12:14am On Jun 04, 2013
Light-skinned people, rock maroon like all the time. You have no idea. Maroon is pretty deep like the color black and red, and sooooo compliments light skin tone. I know this. I rock it too. Matter of factly, it does almost no justice to dark-skinned people, but is also beautiful on medium skin tone.

Your FI coordinating his hat color with your gele's, won't be disastrous, No. Infact, brace yourself up a little, for a few of your guests just might appear in that color of hat too. Then what will you do? Lol. Just be sure that he won't be wearing the exact color matchings of your complete attires. Or for uniqueness, you could really put him up to wear the carton-colored hat with maroon dots. I imagine it will be cute too. Very.

Although, almost everyone's been made to believe that there are really no restrictions on what pearls can be worn, it is crucial that coral beads go with certain trad attires like the niger-delta two-wrappers or the westerners' aso-oke. Or the pearl's design has to appear chucked somewhat, to look more like the typical coral designs.
Pearls really do suit our african clothings, yes....but more readily when these clothings have been designed in the non-african way e.g cocktail/dinner dresses.

Rocktation: W
- WINE AND GOLD
- WINE AND PEACH
- WINE AND SILVER
- WINE AND OLIVE GREEN
- WINE AND PINK

Thanks Rocktation. You've been so helpful. I'll stick with coral beads. I used this color palette to match colors, but worry that Maroon gele with gold lace may be too popping! Carton-colored lace may be too dull for my skin too (see picture 1). Looking at the collage above, what color works best - Gold, Ivory or Carton-color? Yellow is a great match, but too loud for me. My skin tone is like the last girl in the pic above (pic 6). Thanks.

@Yvette, maroon and gold won't be too popping for your skin tone. Not too sure, use Champagne gold then. I attached a picture with champagne gold.

also, about the pearls for traditional, if they are the multiple strands type, why not?

That right there Sassy, is why i think it is crucial to wear coral beads on trad wedding wears, because pearls diminish the feel of the culture you portray, defeating the purpose of having that type of ceremony for the mere purpose of funkyfying one's African-ness. You just think about it. While these same pearls will defo look good on a dinner dress too, you might be perceived as clowning around if you dare try thesame with the typical coral beads. However, whichever anyone chooses to put on, they just have to feel really good in them, irrespective of what anyone else might think.

Yvete, gold is by far the best color in my opinion, that compliments wine and wouldn't be shouty at all for your skin tone. You will love it. Carton color on wine could be rich too, in its profound way. Ivory of cos, will be good. But then, just like white, what color would it not compliment? And just like white again, it isn't exactly exuberant for occasions such as trad weddings. It's fast beginning to get hallmarked for towns' and churches' meetings in Naija, really.
That's not to say that people don't use them for trad weddings at all, though.

Sassygal: Thanks. That bride looks beautiful and the pearls too.
Please ladies, don't get tired of my endless questions. My FI suggests that I forget the Maroon gele and stick with maroon beads instead while he wears the fullah hat with maroon as the primary color. He loves the gold color in pic 1 and 2. He's going to look like the guy in pic 2. Then we can use beads like this yoruba couple in Ivory (See picture 4).
I wanted a small wedding, but my mum is trying to razz things up with traditional dancers from her village and her meeting people with different colors. I didn't want the aso-ebi thing, but she insists so can the ladies wear maroon and pink or should I choose a different color entirely? Thank thanks thanks!! Plenty plenty!

C'mon, this is also why the thread's stickyed. So we can deliberate on choices after choices. Your girls may wear that combo. So I guess that leaves you with ivory and carton-color, maybe? Okay.
Don't be worried about your folks adding color to your occasion. It could be really boring when all there is to do at a wedding, is just stare at the couples and then eat their foods. You will smile each time you peruse your wedding album and watch your VD, later on.

grin Thanks!
Just for clarification, It would not be a bad idea to have my friends wear Pink + Maroon while I wear Maroon jewelry? If I decide to wear a Maroon gele, will it be too matchy with my friends?
Re: Your Questions On Wedding Planning Answered! by Rocktation(f): 10:10pm On Jun 04, 2013
Uhmm, not really. But your gele should be very distinct, with specks of gold/silver or some other pattern.
Or their own gele should be the pink, so you can rock your maroon gele in comfort.
