Jesus answered, “…For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. – John 18:37

Another reason Jesus came to earth is captured in the passage above where He declared that He came to bear witness to the truth. The fact that Jesus came on account of the truth points at the existence of lies. Lies are dangerous; they can derail one from the right path; they can also destroy life or kill initiative. Just as there is God’s truth in every life situation, so also do lies exist that are meant to distort the truth.

The truth is the ideal, lie is never an ideal. And Jesus came to illuminate, to broadcast and to enforce the truth, so that the influence of lie can be reduced. There were many shrouded issues of life that Jesus shed light on in the scriptures. He helped us to put a name to many phenomena as well as appropriately define certain things.

Lie puts one in bondage of fear and despair. Truth is the source of all freedom (John 8:32). When the truth of any matter is revealed, all the terrors associated with the lie are cast away and confusion gives way to understanding. As an apostle of truth, Jesus came to relieve us of the tension of living in ignorance and guesswork. He came to add precision to our mode of operation.

There are also apostles of truth all around us today. These are people who are obsessed with knowing the truth of any matter and getting to the root of phenomenon usually accepted on the face value by others. They always ask questions and query even the obvious. They could be scientists, researchers, archaeologists, academics, philosophers, teachers of the scriptures, people with scientific inclination, and many others. The world owes so much to the findings of these people. They can never become irrelevant.

If your obsession synchs with the above, perhaps you are called to be a witness to the truth in the matter that is agitating you.
