Where I come from in Imo state, killing a python is not only sacrilegious but could attract grave consequences. It doesn't bite (pythons are constrictors thou), just comes around, once a while , delivers message and goes back to the bush. Whoever kills it must accord to it the burial rites of a human being and other atonements. Christianity no commot that one o even if u b pope.

Like really! I'm flabbergasted reading the comments of some Nairalanders that are actually in support of the action against the pastor.

Exactly. If you like be a Christian from now till thy kingdom come, if you kill an idemili python, you must accord to it the burial rites of a human being; coffin, grave and all.

Nigerians are confused about religion.
An average religious Nigerian would rather have a god that he can see to some abstract concept, that is the main reason we cannot relate our Christian faith to the way we live.
Also that is why the congretation always elevates the overseer to a position of man-god considering his words as infallible and keeping him far from the common member.

.
Naturally we fear the god of quick action which the african tradition provides than the merciful God who stay up there and decides whatever He likes to be accepted by faith by his subject.

SO HOW THE F**k IS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHICH SNAKE IS POISONOUS OR NOT?? WAIT UNTIL IT FEASTS ON ONE OF HIS CHILDREN AND MONITOR THE OUTCOME?[/size]

I can see why the snake's death is causing so much noise; the serpent would easy trump those atavistic dimwits an intelligence test. Nonsense!!

@ifyalways and pagan 9ja may satan and the god of that community have mercy (though they have non) on you.

So you expect the man to leave the snake/python to swallow his children. Let me ask you, if you find a snake where your kids are sleeping, what would you do?

Those community people should allow their god to fight for himself. Ha!ha!ha!ha! Dead gods are as good as dead! Let me see one of those snakes, sure I WILL KILL IT. DEAD PEOPLE WITH DEAD god or is it dog.

chrisxxx: I can only support the pastor's action on the assumption that he did not know that killing such snake was a taboo. And the proximity of the snake to his children was a health and safety threat. If that had been done deliberately he has gone contrary to his Bible's and The Bible's teachings.
Did he ever care to ask why Jesus instead of killing the legion of demons hearken to their pleas of being sent to invade the swine?
Did he ever ask why Jesus said Caesar should receive tax?
Did he ever try to know why there was Baal-Jesus even while Jesus was on earth?
Did he ever try to know why God has allowed Satan and his cohorts to exist till this period and still existing?
Let him answer the above questions amongst others.
Don't call me a pagan, I am a Christian just that I understand the Bible better even than some pastors.

I'm amazed at the way some of us just quote scriptures without the help of the Holy Spirit. I'm afraid the above statement lacks wisdom content and it is completely out of context in relation to the topic on hand.

Back to the point, since they claim the snake is their god, why fight for your god? Let the god fight for himself or itself (whichever).

If the snake had bitten the children to death, what do you think would have happened?

As far as i'm concerned, the man in question did the right thing.

The specie of python in question is small unlike the long, scary ones seen at zoos and forests. So y'all should chill on the exaggerations.

You have said it all. No one or a stranger in this local government that doesn't know about this. The Pastor knows that the said Pyton is non poisonous and can't harm. He could have told the police about The report of anyone bitten by the snake either in the town or Ogidi which is where the police men he called came from and also the local government head quarters. Even the policemen are also part of the community and they also respects the customs of there host community.
