Victoria Garden City (VGC) is one of the areas generally reputed to be safe. Same cannot however be said of other parts of Lekki, with the increasing spate of armed robbery in recent times. Apapa is also relatively safe.

What the hell are u giyz talking about? someone is asking u guys about the safest place to live in lagos and u guys are saying okota, magodo and the like? Does that look or sound like a place any savvy yankee returnee would wnat to stay? Tak my advice dear, anything off the island dont even bother. The island is relatively safe- and i say relatively, and LAgos is not entirely the way these nairalanders are putting it.

I used in to live in Dolphin and because all us were nigth crawlers, almost every night, the door to the flat was always open till morning. Never did we even have a break in. I also lived in 1004 estate and the place was also cool. So for your needs though, i wont recommend Ikoyi or v.i due to congestion, i'll still say v.i extension is it- dat is around shoprite or Oniru or millenium estate. The place is peaceful, there is a police post there too and OPC are also very active. The serenity and quite is what must appeal to you. and if u r the romantic type, u can still afford to take strolls with your wife without the fear of being run over. Plus, accessibility is excellent.U can cut out the leeki ajah holdup by coming through ligali.

Another place to recomend is lekki phase1, anywhere off admiralty. super ambience and the sea breaze is excellent.Quiet too. Ajah is off because of the distance and go slow from the CBD's of Lagos. You wont enjoy it, not even within the much reverred VGC. Within Ikoyi, u can choose to be Dangote's neigbor at Parkview or Osbourne. Anything asides that, maybe old Ikoyi.

Hello everyone.
Anywhere can be safe,it all depend on where you really want to live.
people live, work and survive in Ajegunle,Mushin,Oshodi and other place's termed high risk by some other
people.
I have lived in Ikoyi for 12yrs and yes robbers do come here and V/I too!
The only difference is that here they are either oppurtunistic robbers or killers after someone for some deals
gone wrong or on internal info as is the situation in some case's here.
Just be careful about how you let people know when you are landing from overseas;especially those that might
happen to work with you, unless of course when they've gained your trust.
Am an estate salesman and people usually are concerned about they and their family's safety.
I suggest from long experience for you to live in Ikoyi and in Ikoyi,Park-view estate.
It is very safe here:people go out all day and night, serious night crawllers inclusive.
IKOYI is cOOL smiley

Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by JeopardE(m): 6:59pm On Apr 22, 2008
SAM MILLA - "Lekki is very safe" , what are you smoking? If you call regular daylight armed robberies safe, then maybe I'd agree with you.

Chei , I visited there last year and I've never been afraid for my life like I was that week.

Echidime, if you have nothing to say, then SHUT THE *F**K UP and stay the *f**K out of threads that were legitimately started. I see nothing in the thread that insinuates status, the simple question was "What parts are safe." I could probably buy you and spit you out!!!

Hi Pple,

From all considerations and visibilities, its obvious that the safest of all residential areas in Lagos State for someone who is just arriving from the Overs is Mushin(e).
One could go for Papa Ajao area of mushin where dignified personalities also reside,

Check It Out!

You can comfortably go around Ojuelegba even around 3am with out any molestation or attack. If anyone comes , it must be from area C police station nearby. grin grin
Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by ogasnow: 7:26pm On Apr 23, 2008
The festac town block of flats present the best answer to your question. Do the math. One close is made up of six blocks. 3 blocks of 8 flats, 3 blocks of 16 flats, totalling 72 flats. An conservative average of 5 persons per flat. 360 heads in a hood. Most flats possess the very reliable pump action rifle. Bleep the police, Bleep opiaka, no force of robbers can overcome such an area. If the entire lagos is besieged by crooks, they'll never come near the f-town projects. sleep on it.

Is Lagos safe? I used to leave alone at Ikoyi and i went to bed without even bothering to close my doors(really) it felt very safe.

Recently i moved to Victoria Garden City(Nice house by the lagoon) or so i thought but about six weeks ago armed robbers came into our house about 11.45 pm, robbed us and even shot my Cousin 4 times with an AK-47.

VGC is supposed to be one of the safer sides of Lagos but we were robbrd and i bet you the bad guys did'nt even break a sweat with all the hype and security guards, cops showing of all over the place.

The management of the estate have been trying to play it down cos you know it is bad for business so there you go, hope you do find some "safe" in Lagos but i really thought it.
Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by wendymanda: 10:04am On Apr 24, 2008
Is your cousin still alive after getting shot 4 times? How is such an incident downplayed? Oh the shooting noises in the middle of the night are invisible fire works?
Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by uchetobi(f): 10:27am On Apr 24, 2008
Who says Lekki and VI and Ikoyi are safe….my brother very far from it….those are high target areas for robbery……everywhere is a potential robbery area anyways….except the barracks…so if you are considering moving to Lagos….i will say don’t let security be the deciding factor for where you live….security is in the hands of God…there are other factors e.g. proximity to your office (very important cuz Lagos traffic is hell), availability of water, good roads, etc…cheers
Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by uchetobi(f): 10:31am On Apr 24, 2008
@Apache 77 Is this a joke…my friend lives off Kingsway road at ikoyi…she was robbed at home last week…robbery in Ozumba road is another story foor another day…then Lekki anoda robbery zone…how can you say those areas are safer than the mainland….PLS….wake up from slumber land

Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by emmydee(m): 3:55pm On Apr 24, 2008
Nowhere is safe in Lagos!
However, crime rates are quite low in highbrow area like ikoyi, lekki, ajah, Ikeja GRA , Ogudu & Magodo. For assassins, nowhere is safe, for car snatchers, nowhere is safe.

I enjoyed reading this post because i have a similar case with the poster. My case is that work is at V.I so that
rules out the main land.Things am considering are mainly good schools for my kids close to our home and close
to working place. For security i will leave that in God's hand.
Re: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by Nobody: 12:14pm On Apr 25, 2008
pls don't let anyone scare you,
yes safety is of god but you will also need to do ur own part which is what u are doing.

the things you have to consider is ur budget and the life style u intend to live
for example u cant drive 2007 Toyota or Hummer and live in Ojuelegba, or Mushin

Places like Magodo, and very good estates ard Ikeja, Ajah, VI, Lekki, are good places,

Did I hear somebody mention old Ikoyi?which Old Ikoyi? I would have said VGC and Osborne, but there are now isolated cases of robbers coming into VGC and escaping through the waterfront(towards the end of Road 2,where we have most of the on-going developments). For Osbourne, except you will remain locked within the estate perpetually cos if you come out @ night and head to your left towards 3rd mainland, you'll have to contend with that dangerous spot near Adeniji, after that you'll still have the entire stretch of 3rd mainland to contend with.If you however decide tohead left towards V.I,hmmmmm, that's even more dangerous as you could run into those robbers that usually lay siege alond Alfred Rewane Rd (Kingsway Rd) or run into those numerous syndicates that operate in Ikoyi @ anttime of the day.

Trust me,I know what I'm saying

Anyway I can see most posters are just guessing and from the look of things a lot of us are unaware of the frequency and M.O of robberies in Lagos.
So I'll just supply the following records from my security diary(I get regular briefs somwhow)

February 14, 2008
On February 14, 2008, at approximately 22.30 hrs, a private house located on Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island (Behind Zenith Bank on Ajose Adeogun Street) was attacked by four armed robbers who over-powered the single security guard on duty.  They forced the occupants to lay on the floor and systematically ransacked the house.  There were no injuries as the occupants did not resist.

February 15, 2008
On February 15, 2008 at about 1500 hours, 2 armed robbers ridding an Okada (Motorcycle) forced their way into a private residence located on Bourdillon/Falomo road (Near the French Embassy) and robbed the owner of Two Million Naira.  There was no police response when called, however no injury was reported.

Sunday February 17, 2008
At about 2220 hours, an expat's rented property on Raymond Njoku (off Awolowo Road , Ikoyi) was attacked by armed robbers.  Five armed men gained entry by closely tailgating a company car and escort vehicle (using a blue coloured Toyota Avensis, Reg. No. BB571KKA) when the expat arrived from a trip that evening.
The escort vehicle had broken off to accompany another company vehicle to a separate location, leaving the targeted vehicle to drive alone from Kingsway Road to Raymond Njoku via Falomo Roundabout.
It is believed that the robbers had followed the target vehicle from the Dolphin Estate area, where it was reported that there had been an earlier robbery.  Fortunately, no shots were fired and no one was hurt.  However, two visitors and a resident had their luggage, phones, wallets, watches, jewelry, shoes etc. stolen.

Lekki - February 18, 2008
At about 02.00 hours, four armed robbers forced their way into a residence in NICON town, Jakande Estate.  All the occupants of the house were locked up in one room and the robbers removed jewelry, phones and money.  It was reported that no one was injured apart from a woman who was struck on the head with a weapon.  RRF team were dispatched to assist local police, who late located the robbers attempting to rob another house in the estate.  Shots were exchanged, however the robbers managed to escape by boat.

February 19, 2008.
On February 19, 2008 at about 22.30 hours, Hotel La Coeur, 27c Glover Road Ikoyi was robbed.  About 10 persons (Guards and Hotel staff) were locked up in a room while the two Mobile Policemen on duty at the entrance were shot dead.  After the robbers had taken money and other valuables from inside the hotel, they attacked an female expatriate  who just arrived in a taxi.  All her valuables were taken.

Wednesday February 21, 2008
At about 20.15 hours, a vehicle was hijacked and No. 3A Ojora Road , Ikoyi was robbed.  It was reported that a gang of 4 armed robbers, driving in a red Toyota Corolla, gained access into the compound by tailgating the resident's vehicle a VW Touareg, while the guards opened the gate.  On entering the compound, two of the robbers forced the two security guards to lay on the ground while the other two robbed the two female occupants of the vehicle of their personal belongings.  The robbers then drove both vehicles out of the compound.  No gun was fired and no injury reported.

Saturday February 23, 2008
At approximately 22.40 hours, armed robbers attacked No. 3/4, 1st Avenue , Ikoyi.  It was reported that a gang of 4 armed men, driving a 4x4 vehicle blocked a vehicle at the gate of the compound and robbed the occupants of their personal belongings.  No attempt was made to steal the vehicle; no gun shots and no injury recorded. etc.

There were also reported cases of an expat who was robbed at the Glover/Kingsway traffic light and shooting incident at Shoprite Mall on Sunday February 24, 2008; and this list may not be exhaustive.

The mode of operation of the armed robbers is 'tail-gating', i.e driving behind their victim or hanging around the vicinity of the victims’ residence, and as soon as the gates open, they follow the victim inside and hold the security guards at gun point.

It is also observed that most of the robbery incidents took place on weekends (Friday to Sunday).  It is therefore advised that we should adjust our lifestyle by reducing late night outings, particularly on weekends.  We should also prearrange some agreed "Gate Procedures" with our security guards, e.g. calling the guards to alert them of your arrival and to notify them if there will be more than one vehicle.
Drivers should be briefed on some simply Defensive and Counter Surveillance techniques to aid them when they suspect that they are being followed and the necessary measures to adopt.

There are also reported cases of vehicles snatched from drivers at the Shoprite Mall while they were waiting for their Bosses to finish shopping inside the Mall.  Drivers should be instructed to park and leave their vehicles and move to an agreed location, preferably somewhere inside the Mall, until they are called by their Bosses
