so I invited a long time friend to my birthday party and got told that she doesn't celebrate birthdays as she is now a Jehovah's witness. Well, that floored me. I told her I respected her decision but I was left pondering. Does it go against the christian tenet to celebrate one's birthday? It just never occurred to me that it might be displeasing to GOD. Your GOD inspired views please

If they want to, they should.

If her denomination doesn't celebrate birthdays, that is their choice. It doesn't make you less a child of God because you do.there is no place in the bible where you're asked not to celebrate occasions that are special to you.its your decision to make.

Personally i dont pay attention to celebrations as i find them cumbersome.nothing to do with spirituality my sister.to me,they are just another day in the calendar.

God bless you

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. (Colosians 2:16, 17).

Here is another scripture-

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
(Romans 14: 4-6).

Both those who choose to regard any day special and those who don't are on the right track. None should judge the other according to the above quoted scriptures. Cheers.

Some ministries don't support birthday parties because of the ungodly methods being employed in such parties these days. But if you believe in birthday parties be sure to conduct it a godly & wholesome manner.Birthdays is a time to soberly thank God for adding another year to you with praise & worship & thanksgiving & with promise to draw closer to Him in righteousness so he adds more years to you knowing many people smarter & more intelligent are dead. How does all those ungodly s.ex promoting music & dancing, alcohol & drunkenness, boyfriend & girlfriend during birthday parties glorify God? This is an answer to your question if u are really sincere. But how many on nairaland can be found to be sincere?
