What Is The Difference Btw Ram And Internal Memory by ninja4life(m): 4:56pm On Jun 16, 2013
Pls what is d difference btw RAM and internal memory of a phone.i am asking dis cos it seems im confusing d two together, when i searched for d specs of samsung galaxy s3 i found out dat it hav about 16GB internal memory and maybe 2GB RAM am confused.here on nairaland most people complain of about 500MB RAM of tecno phones so is RAM where i download my game to or internal memory or is there no difference btw them.thanks

RAM -mobile
Internal memory (ROM) -immobile
For P.Cs.

RAM here means Random Access Memory, it is a fast type of memory. Internal memory here is akin to hard disk space in computers, it is slower than RAM. Applications need to store or access information temporarily and quickly in order to run smoothly, they do this using RAM. Files saved in your internal memory are more permanent in nature (kind of) e.g you would store your movies, music, pictures e.t.c using internal memory and not RAM. Your game files will be stored in the internal memory but will need enough RAM to run smoothly when you launch the game. Hope this helps, tried to break it down the best I could.

The RAM is a temporary memory storage while internal memory or ROM is permanent. You saved your downloads on internal memory but when operating, apps, softwares or files need RAM to quickly access the necessary information to run your quarries.

Think of your course note and a jotter.
You got that?

RAM stand 4Random Access Memory. It is d memory ur fone needs to run applications smoothly. Every file or app u open take up certain space 4rm ur RAM. Were d whole Ram is exhausted u wil have to close sum running apps to allow d running of another. Basically a fone of 1GB RAM wil allow d runnin of more apps at d same time dan a fone wit 515MB RAM while ur internal memory is d fone memory were u store ur music, videos, games etc, d internal memory can be expanded using memory card of ur choice size.
Hop dis helps

RAM = speed of ur device
INTERNAL MEMORY = disk space where all your files are stored
EXTERNAL MEMORY = sd card or memory card (removable)

this application help increase the internal memory of your android fone by using part of your sd card.
your fone must be rooted

Wow thanks for all d reply but if RAM helps in determining for example how smoothly u can run ur apps then wat is d fuction of processor on a phone,i thought dats wat determines d speed of a phone.thanks for ur replies it helped alot

processor works hand.in.hand with other drives.

Both determine the speed of the phone. The job of the CPU is to process/translate data. The job of the RAM is to store temporary data. The higher the your CPU speed, the faster it processes the data it collects/reads from internal memory and RAM. As you open applications in your phone, they tend to store temporary data in the RAM, this means that the more RAM you have, the more likely you are to run more applications(multitask) or launch heavy applications smoothly.

you u rit d processor determine d speed of fone. The processor as d name implies process d input data n give u result. A dual-core processor is a CPU with two processors. Each processor has its own cache and controller, which enables it to function as efficiently as a single processor. However, because the two processors are linked together, they can perform operations up to twice as fast as a single processor can. A quad core has two dual core i.e four processors.

Ram - random access memory, this is just like having a 2gb memory card (sort of) where if a game wants to launch it copys the essential files needed to run it onto the memory temporarily (which will be deleted anytime you close the app) so the CPU can easily interpret what's happening and allow the process to run, which in turn reads the games respective folders to connect other files needed to run the game (obb/data).

Have it in mind that RAM is fast and very volatile (if you power off your phone entirely everything that was on there will be wiped) and it works differently for different system architectures eg (smartphones don't have dual channel RAM feature in most laptops and tower computers)

Internal memory is just like having a memory card soldered on the phones panel, it is also where operating system files for android is stored but partitioned so you don't access it easily or even modify it
