@dayo
the UCL and the euros are two different competitions
Cassillas competed in the UCL and didnt win and even VDS competed at the euros and lost out. Winning is a function of the team you play for.

for me

Oliver Khan ever
Peter schmeichel
Buffon

presently
Buffon
Cassillas
VDS
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 3:14pm On Jul 29, 2008
I still think Casillas is the best keeper right now.

Buffon usually has a good cover in front. you see what Holland reduced him to when the defence became Nasarawa United standard.

But Casillas? You need to watch a Real Madrid game with Metzelder and Pepe or Canavaro in defence. He is more effective than the missile defense built by the US
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by Hannibal: 3:34pm On Jul 29, 2008
Edwin Van Der Sar and Petr Cech are better than Casillas. . . . . .
Iker me bloody foot. . . . . I cannot count the number of times Dinho, Etoo and Leo Messi disgraced him in La Liga.
The only top team goalies Iker is better are Pepe Reina n Almunia/Lehmann.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 3:57pm On Jul 29, 2008
Which Van der Saar the one that was chased from Juventus, to Fulham or which one. I cant count the number of times Arshavin disgraced him in a single match.

In the last UCL semi both legs and finals i cant remember VDS making saves in those 3 matches. (Maybe from Ferdinand) I think the defence deserves credit for what ever Man Utd achieved this season

Cech rating crashed with those school boy errors made at the Euro's
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by Hannibal: 4:01pm On Jul 29, 2008
@ Dayokanu,

Use ur head more. . . . . .Van Der Sar made more daring saves than any goalkeeper in the Euros.
Just look at the group games and get baq to us. . . .

In the UCL. . . . .my dayz. . . . .Van Der Sar didn't concede any goal at OT throughout the campaign.
He was too good. . . . making world class saves against creme de la creme strikers of Europe.
Meanwhile. . . .a very poor Roma team went to the Bernabeu and made Iker look like Ike Shorunmu.

Same Roma team that couldn't score a goal in 4.5 HRS of football against Edwin.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 4:27pm On Jul 29, 2008
VDS made one save in 3 UCL games (Balacks shove on Ferdinand) in the final. Which top draw save are you talking about. Is it against Barca who did not have any shot on target for 180 minutes.

Against Roma, De Rossi blew their best chance to the North Pole like someone who took Power Horse. Remind me of 3 top saves VDS made from q-finals to finals. Not penalties pls. 5 games. I think Vidic and Ferdinand were awesome. United would still have gotten to the finals without a keeper.

Teams didnt score a goal does not mean the keeper saved goal attempts

This is why i say u don't watch European games. . . . . U only read on goal.com.

How can u not remember Vucinic's flicked header that produced the best save of the tournament. . . .
Ferdinand had to do the cleaning up as Panucci was closing in to slam home the rebound.

Henry's stinger at Nou Camp when he came on. . . . .The same kinda shot Babel powered against Cech and scored . . .
Don't tell me u were blind to see that too. . . . .What about Henry's header at OT from a corner kick and his curler that was well saved by Edwin.
Dayo. . . . stop reading from goal.com. . . . . .watch these matches. . . . I can send United's season review DVD to u. tongue
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by debosky(m): 4:54pm On Jul 29, 2008
Casillas is the best - any keeper that consistently plays with bad defences in front of him like Spain and Madrid and still keeps his team winning has to be exceptionally good.

Most other goalies would be ruined if they had such shady defenders covering them.

VDS is good, but much of the hype about him is that he is still delivering the goods at such an age. He is obviously up there with the best, but on current form, Casillas more than shades it.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by doyin13(m): 5:25pm On Jul 29, 2008
I actually agree with Hannibal but not necessarily for the same reasons.

He is solid in all areas while his rivals have one shortcoming or another.

Cassillas is a great shot stopper but his relative lack of height means he cannot relieve the pressure
on his defence when those balls are getting crossed into the area.

Cech is commanding but I don't think he has the greatest reflexes.

@Hannibal.

VDS'S record in the UCL says more about the defence in front of him than about his body of work.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by Hannibal: 5:32pm On Jul 29, 2008
@ Doyin,

What defence are we talking about??
Vidic did not take part against Barcelona(Both legs). . . . .It wasn't as if Van Der Sar's goal wasn't peppered with shots.
The big Dutch dealt with everything accordingly. . . . . .Casillas can stop shotz but is he commanding?? Communication ?? Hell Nah.
VDS has been over consistent. . . . . . The last time he won UCL was 13 years ago . . . .That alone speaks volume.
Even at Fulham(a lowly rated team). . . . he was tidy.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 5:43pm On Jul 29, 2008
I am talking about top draw saves you are mentioning Henry's cushion header.

Casillas is over 6 ft and he should be about the same height with Dino Zoff and Oliver Kahn who are probably the greatest Keeper of all time.

I am more than convinced that you only watch EPL if you are trying to play down the wacky Madrid defence.

Anything Madrid achieves half the credit goes to Iker

You are an idiot. . . .I presume!!!
Sergio Ramos, Cannavaro, Gabriel Heinze. . . . . . what else does Casillas need?? A German tank??
What about the protective cover of Mahmodu Diarra plus Madrid's superb quick counter-attacks.
Attack is the best form of defence. . . . .This was why Spain was able to weather the storm with their wacky defence.
Opponents were more worried defending their goal than attacking the Spaniards. . . . .Casillas ma foot.
Is he better than Brad Friedel??
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by doyin13(m): 6:31pm On Jul 29, 2008
Madrid have good defenders but they sure don't play good defence.

Their 'wingers' leave their full backs exposed etc.

No doubt Casillas is a great goalkeeper, especially his uncanny ability at shot stopping
but he can't command his area like Van Der Saar can.

As per the United defence, I think the contribution that aspect of United's game made to
their successful season has been underrated. And it was a co-operative effort of all 11 players
not individual efforts from Vidic or whoever.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by timmfikk(m): 10:05pm On Jul 29, 2008
hannibal, try and control your post, agree the fact that iker and vds are good, but i think you cannot compare bolton wonderers and mopre of useless strikers in england to that of spain, if you want to know the best keeper go and open a thread in bbc more people will talk to you. okay leave all this peeps alone, its like to you vds is perfect and 60% of his ball are kicked out from the goal lane by vidic or ferdinand, but you are lacking in that aspect, more so tell me how many time has messi useles iker casillas, its like u do not know how ur keeper was disgraced in euro 2008 u berra go and watch the last 40 mins of that match very well so u can know that man u defence are making him proud and u feel like he is good. u want to compare pepe and vidic, ferdinand and canavaro who is getting older, huh

kindly try and see what the real people are looking at.
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by tkb417(m): 10:45am On Jul 30, 2008
@Dayo
stop mentioning the euro cup cos Iker wasnt chosen as the best goalie. Buffon was chosen so what are you on about?
he played at the UCL and he wasnt and will not be chosen as the best goalie!!
so can you tell me one good reason why you think hes the best

Like i said Buffon is the best followed closely by Iker and VDS
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by lordimpaq(m): 8:40pm On Jul 31, 2008
i cannot believe that rubbish poll says petr cech is better than buffon,

dat poll is utter nonsense,

buffon is the best followed by iker casillas then VDS then we can have cech,

cech has never been the best, he has only been one of the best
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by Arogz(m): 11:50am On Aug 06, 2008
I'm a Chelsea fan and I've gotta say tha' ryn now, Iker is d best GK in football.
Cech was in contention with performances such as those in the Champs Leage Final, Evrton away @ d Carling Cup and so but his ever increasing number of mistakes is just alarming. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Spurs, and even @ d Euros against Turkey!!!!!!
I even blame Petr for some of Chelsea's stuttering last season. Who saw d freekick Locomotiv scored him last Friday? Very Poor angle from him.
Iker on d other hand has some a sometimes lousy defence line, Marcelo, Miguel Torres and even Pepe and drama kings. And d man captained spain 2 European glory. Hats off 2 him. I hope Cech can get back in form sha.
Van Der Sar had d most consistent pair of central defenders last season and dou he had a poor defence @ d Euros, he wasn't too outstanding. Making Pavlychenko look like a start doesn't say too well of him.

For Euro2008:
Iker

For Uefa Champ league (last season):
Peter Cech

For this new season:
Undecided

Final answer:
Peter Cech (his goal keeping abilities are amazing)

Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by mystikal(m): 10:57am On Oct 08, 2009
on current form, Cech is far from the best as those polls suggest. He has been woeful lately
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 3:10pm On Oct 08, 2009
With IFFHS voting Cassilas as the best, this Argument should be laid to rest.

Its obvious how myopic NL sport fans are when they can vote Cech and VDS ahead of Casillas and Buffon

You took it right out of my mouth, Juio cesar shits on any goal keeper in the world right now, and has been for a while

Dayo, talking abt bad defence, you need to go bk and watch brazil WC qualifiers n friendlies in the last two yrs b4 they

became a compact team recently
, I can not count the number of games where cesar single handedly savaged points for

Brazil, there defence and midfield was soo bad it makes real madrid's back four look soo damn good, guys who have been following

south America WCQ will know what I'm talking abt

The best three keepers currently ply their trade outside england. They are buffon, casilas & ceasar.

Jalether,

Teams hardly attack Brazil thats why they can play with average keepers. I bet a typical Brazilian keeper hardly makes 3 save per game

Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by Nobody: 6:05pm On Oct 08, 2009
out of all the players, the older ones have more experience, OLI KAHN is the bestestestest goal keeper, i think buffon is also pretty good, he is also quite old, i doubt u have seen him play very closely, u will notice the experience he has, the problem is that sometimes he does not make use of the experience that he has over the younger players
Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by dayokanu(m): 8:30pm On Oct 08, 2009
Oliver Kahn is my idol, Buffon is Great but right now casillas nails it.

Check the save on 25 seconds and the one on 58 seconds. See the look on Diarra's face at 1:04 when Diarra left the ball and was looking at Cassilass like is this guy human at all?
