since I got admitted at fmca I have witnessed three patients who have died due to negligence on the part of the nurses all they do is just talk about irrelevant things ignoring patients who are in critical conditions and particularly those on night shift sleeping on duty hence allowing a patient who happened to be the bread winner of his family to die after like 4 hours of calling the nurses who came out after he has died only to start pretending to resuscitate him. I just feel most of the nurses are not up to it when it comes to care giving and in fact they should be putting on black instead of white.

You are very correct. Its a practice that is seen in virtually all govt parastatals all over the nation. To think that most of these people are Christians is a serious puzzles. I believe if there is proper supervision, all these excesses will be curbed. There should be an office (not the politicised NMA) responsible for discipline of health workers especially.

Death is inevitable with or without nurses and doctors.
Did they fall from the bed, on the floor, in the bathroom etc.
Were they in the pool of their blood, vomitus, sputum, feacal matter.
Were they left un-attended with infusions or tranfusion and so on.

Sue them for these and other related ones, if not, get well and get out real fast.

what should have been mixed with the infusion wasn't done and when the one he was receiving finished no one was there to clip it he was neglected while they enjoyed their sleep. What I suggest is that they can put cctv or put an alarm button close to the patient bed incase they have problems at night and no matter how many doctors are on ground,if someone is going to die nothing can be done but at least they should be there because little things matter when it comes to life and death..?

there is indiscpline among workers from all walks of life in all organizations in this country. do not blame health workers blame corrupt society that breed them. the problem in health sector is apparent because life is involved directly. in other sectors life is involved directly. people should change positively. if u a teacher never involve in school or exam fraud. engineers should shun using fake building materials . accountants should stop stealing pension money. etc.

@ laa,
I agree with you its all down to corruption though I must confess few of them impressed me but the bad ones are just too many also it cuts across all facet of our lives.Just waiting for the era where at least 60 percent of those employed will be on merit which I believe will reduce the non challant attitude exhibited by workers
