FEC Approves Merger Of EFCC And ICPC; To Scrap BPE And 219 Others. by Nobody: 9:18pm On Jul 01, 2013 |
Reports say that the Federal Executive Council, FEC, has agreed to scrap the Bureau of Public Enterprises and 219 other parastatals and agencies. This is coming on the heels of the review of the white paper on the report of the Presidential Committee on the Rationalization and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies which was headed by ex-Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Steve Oronsaye. The Oransaye led committee was in 2011 inaugurated to restructure and rationalize Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies of the government as part of measures to reduce the rising budget profile. After the submission of the report, a White Paper Committee was set up to look at the recommendations of the Presidential Committee. FEC had spent the last three weeks reviewing the report and concluded the exercise on June 26. It finally debated and ratified the recommendations of the White paper Committee. In spite of the controversy, the government is set to merge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as recommended. Some other agencies were not as lucky, as they are to be scrapped. They include, BPE; National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP); Fiscal Responsibility Commission(FRC); Public Complaints Commission(PCC); Nigerian Export Promotion Council; Public Complaints Commission (PCC); National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC); Federal Highways Department; Utilities Charges Commission; and National Economic Intelligence Committee among others Link: http://www.thescoopng.com/fec-approves-merger-of-efcc-and-icpc-to-scrap-bpe-and-219-others |

This is great news, the FG is carrying too much luggage, a more focused approach of the FG should be towards policy formulation and regulation, and probably some limited infrastructural development, all others should be dropped..that the only way we can proceed as a nation, This will be definitely be the righ step in the right direction 1 Like |
