How can you justify equality for all before the law and still have immunity.for rule of law to be sustain ,immunity clause must be expunged from the constitution.immunity is not democractic .

The 1999 constitution is a fraud of the military regime and must be done away with it !
Re: Presidency Rejects Removal Of Immunity Clause by Horus(m): 10:54am On Jul 08, 2013
The National Publicity Secretary, CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, told one of our correspondents that the removal became necessary because in a clime where democratic values had not been embraced and entrenched in the national psyche, it would be “very preposterous” to continue to allow immunity clause.

It should be the other way around!: Remove imnunity first and it will be embraced and entrenched in the national psyche.

Immunity Clauses should be upheld for The President and Sitting Governors, but impeachment can be used to remove criminal minded executives from office, after which they can be tried by the law courts.[do u tink its possible dat way

REMOVAL of immunity clause for the President and the Governors is never our Problems. Our problem with this country is the the Judiciary, SAN senior advocate of NAIRA has bastardise the whole system. What happened to Ex Gov. Peter Odilli's case where perpetual injunction restraining EfCC from prosecuting him, or is it Ex. Gov. James Ibori that was never found guilty on any count charge against him by EFCC.... but this Same Ex.Gov. James Ibori pleaded guilty to this same charges in a court in the UK. WERE these Ex.Govs immuned during the time of their TRIALS? How can both house of Rep and Senate Claim to fight corruption When 45million naira is been paid salaries/allowee monthly to 109 senators... and 29 million Naira to 360 Reps member each. most of them now see politics as a profession........What has happened to the constituency fund given to this thieves to develop their area...... pls they should forget about Immunity and focus on something good and wait for judgement DAY. God bless Naija.

This immunity clause is one of the worst things that ever happened to this country!! angry It's aim has been thwarted by the crooks we voted into office and has emboldened them to so brazenly loot our scarce resources.

May God punish Gulak for the senseless statements below!

He warned that unscrupulous persons, who were bent on getting at public officials out of sheer envy, would capitalise on the removal of the clause to cause distraction in the system.

Gulak said, “The planned removal of the immunity clause will count, the recommendation will not sail through.

“The President, vice-president, governors and their deputies really need immunity. Immunity is the best thing that has happened to this country today.

God dey. angry cry

The same way State Police was knocked off. If we have been trying something for years and it seems its no longer giving us the desired result, can't we try another one knowing well that we can't still go back to the previous one if needful.

Removal of immunity is a bad idea for the president.. It means anyone can bring an allegation against the president and he would have to defend himself in court.. Now whether this allegation is true or not will have disastrous consequences on his performance.. There is a reason immunity is removed after serving.. For the others such as the governors to reps, immunity should be removed, their position is not as important..

Re: Presidency Rejects Removal Of Immunity Clause by Lordlexy: 1:35pm On Jul 08, 2013
My concern basically is d fact tat, d removal might encourage series of frivolous litigation which may cost office holders time to discharge their official duties to the best of their ability. That being said, i believe slight modificatn to limit it to criminal cases will be commendable, that will bring some measure of accountability, check and balancing and transparancy. Moreso, this will make govt less attractive to those in the practice of do or die politics. This no doubt will encourage the ppl to hold its govt accountable, and govt by this will want to sit up to deliver the dividents of democracy. Next, i think we must strongly canvass for an autonomous judicialy void of appointment from d executive, because until that is done, i promise u, this immunity clause removal would amount to nothing.
Re: Presidency Rejects Removal Of Immunity Clause by dady12: 2:22pm On Jul 08, 2013
the removal of immunity clause is the beginning of panic in the presidency, nigerians elected them to governed them and the same nigerians seek the removal of immunity clause,if GEJ is a true democrat that have nigerians at heart,he can never oppose the removal,he had lost the war against curruption and he have successfully legalise curruption at all level.let us look at the rate of govt abandoning of project at all level, political killing in other to impose themselves on nigerians without no one uttering a word and they (president ,deputy, governor and their deputy)are hiding under the so called immunity clause ,if the presidency and deputy ,governors and their deputy think they are representing nigerians, they should have it remove as demanded by nigerians or else they will face the wraft of the most high God
Re: Presidency Rejects Removal Of Immunity Clause by yetunsbay(m): 2:30pm On Jul 08, 2013
Pedagogue: Ordinarily, d removal of immunity clause is plausible.

But let's pause a little to consider the significance,
Firstly,In a country like ours where dirty politics is d order of the day, don't we think it will further affect governance? Let's imagine the number of Cases ACN /CPC might have filed against GEJ by now- and a similar thing will be playing out in the states! And I'm very sure that many of such cases will be frivolous and vindictive.

Secondly, let's also imagine this scenario. If there was nothing like immunity clause, GEJ must have used EFCC against Amaechi. By now, Amaechi must have been arrested / jailed and subsequently impeached for trumped up charges!

Nevertheless, since immunity clause has d effect that ' d President/VP, Governor/Deputy' can do no wrong while in office makes it anti people!!! Thus, as it has been playing out, d clause is the singular reason why many of them bury their huge corruption deals while in office - and this makes it difficult for them to be prosecuted after leaving office!

Thus, I think there should be a balance- Immunity clause should be removed- but d way and manner prosecution criminal cases can be brought against occupants of these offices should be drafted in a way that will leave little room for abuse
!
well written

Weep, dear Nigeria weep. For you breed monsters in abundance. You breed on your soil, those who kill & maim without reason. Weep O' Nigeria.
Weep! For you have no control over your children. Those who do the unthinkable and get away with it. Weep my country.Weep my dear Country, for Nigerian mothers are no longer sure their kids are safe on your surface. Why do you allow this? Weep!
Why have you become so powerless you can't swallow evil doers before their acts! Widows have been created, yet you react not. Weep!
Re: Presidency Rejects Removal Of Immunity Clause by dexentity: 3:46pm On Jul 08, 2013
what is best 4 dis country is for d immunity clause to be removed, no govt public office holder has ever been successfully prosecuted and sentenced since 1999 till date wit d exception of ibori who was unlucky, and we all know dat this guyz are all theiving bastards. Nobody cares abt prosecuting this ppl once they leave office. So most of them jst spend most of the four years stashing money in foreign accounts while they do nothing for the masses and ride on d immunity clause until their four years expire as they cant b impeached. Scrap d damn immunity clause i say.

Tolexander: The issue of immunity clause in our constitution has more disadvantage than the advantage it offers in this kind of nigerian atmospheric settings.

Though it gives a kind of protection against criticism to the the leaders and their deputies in office but notwithstanding a straight and upright leader should have nothing to worry about.

We are all nigerian and the leaders are in the post by virtue of our mandate. Hence, there shouldn't be a clause to make them greater than the citizens they govern.
U jst said it all man. . .

Just shows that our leaders and especially our governors, are all a bunch of touts. Didnt you guys see how local they were on that Youtube clip during the useless NGF meeting?

See what Mimiko is saying, that it will distract them and that those who put it in constitution were not daft lol.

In a serious country this rejection by the presidency and tout governors would warrant an Egyptian style uprising and French revolution massacre of the officials and their supporting Pastor pastor prostitutes.

Thats why Oyibo people were abe to prosecute Ibori and evem Alamsy of Bayelsa, but not us in the Ni.gga area.

Thats why Gbenga Daniel and Udenwa were able to not do one thing for all those wasteful years as governor, and enjoy Lagos and Abuja.

Thats why Theo Orji and Uduaghun can boast of legacy projects that even the Indians from 1940 would have laughed at and said "You are not serious"
