Both are world class, it just depends on which catches your fancy, I am not too familiar with the SOA although i know they have Exam P, Financial Maths e.t.c. , but with the institute, it's 15 exams to be a Fellow and 12 to be an Associate although 3 of these are practical exams. So if you can go the whole log and you find statistics interesting, you can go for it. But don't go in for the money or you will be immensely disappointed. My 2 cents

As am writing dis post now am currently study mathematics in the university, personally i dnt believe their is no job (no matter the course you are studying), i would have given u fews reason to the best of my knowledge but dat will take much of my time, i dnt like teaching if u tink dats where u end ur career as a mathematician, ones am tru wit my studies am going fully into d computer world. Mathematics is really universal my friend, tink positive thier are 1001 (one thousand and one) place you as a mathematicien can work. Dat my little contribution. PEACE BE ONTO MEN

How is life as a mathematician in d real world

It may though seems that science and technology is of no great value to people in Nigeria. The world is growing fast on this. Is it right for our great minds to travel abroad because their effort is not appreciated? We have brilliant minds in Nigeria. Industrial mathematics and other related scientific field should be appreciated. I know that Nigeria will grow to that state of equality in terms of science and technology soonest. What are the possible present job opportunities for industrial mathematician like me?

Well just think deeply about it, follow your heart. I was at this stage too during service and was also writing the ICAN exams but I just didn't have passion for all those book-keeping stuff (sorry to all accountants,but that's how I see it) someone introduced me to the actuarial exams, I did a little research and that just clicked it for me. It's tough but very rewarding as you can work ANYWHERE in the world once you are a qualified actuary.

Dear, ICAN is not book keeping and with ICAN you can fitting in anywhere. Actuarial science will even restrict you the more. I am a living testimony, I am a graduate of geology but with ICAN I am doing very well as a tax accountant. Do ICAN and/or CFA and banks as well as other organisations will be crewing to beg for your service.
