His investment decisions should be based on his "circumstantial risk appetite", i.e. what level of risk can he afford giving his present circumstances? Since he appears to presently have moderate bills it will be nice to generate some income to subsidize his outflows. Therefore completing his Ajah project becomes absolutely imperative. Subjective investing based on younger brothers that have country homes and bullish expectations zenith etc stocks may eventually turn out to be false. Always remember, the stock market is a "funkified" casino raised to the power of a game of musical chairs |

This may or may not be a hype. But I can read between the lines that OP has some interest in UBA,Zenith and FBN shares.Possibly planning a cash out.Trust me NL is enough generate demand that can push the price up. let's calculate what UBA has given as dividend since he bought the stock if the value will be close to 720k...... I keep my finger crossed like Abayomi Obabolujo would say......... 1 Like |

O Greene: "Thirdly, he believes stocks like Zenith Bank, FBN, UBA, UBA Capital, Access Bank and ETI are currently undervalued, investing in this stocks should give an average dividend yield of 6.5% is over 700k and an upside potential of 30% to 40% that is 3.3 million Naira to 4.4 million Naira in the next 12 months." Do the maths... Go for the one with best ROI But as for me i'll rather develop a property in lagos than tie down my money in the village except I have more than enough to spare. Am not a pro in stocks bullish calculation/movements e.t.c so I'll stick to what I know that is guaranteed, steady, appreciates then afterwards invest more of its returns in stocks. REAL ESTATE IT IS FOR ME, Abeg make I carry dey go singing o lala different strokes for different folks and goodluck to you all

I no know book: Bros, don't just write, do the math - UBA gave 50k dividend June 2013, if he used 4m on UBA at N2.5, he will have 4m/2.5K = 1.6M UNITS. At 50k dividend, he will collect N800,000.00 - Taxes and other fees = 702k dividend. So the guy is right. 5 Likes |

Peterwins: I do not think this is inside trading, if you know how to calculate the intrinsic value of stocks you will know that UBA was undervalued at N2.50k even at the current price of N8.30 it is still undervalued. The stock should not be selling for anything less than N10.00. Anybody with the requisite knowledge, patience and multiple streams of income will make more money on the long term investing in undervalued stocks than in real estate. |

N4 million will buy 1.625 million units of UBA shares at an average price of N2.40k and deduction of commission, taxes and other charges. UBA paid a dividend of N0.50k about 4 weeks ago, that is N812,000. If you deduct with-holding tax of 10% you will have a dividend of N731,000 from his investment of N 4 million. |

I do not know how knowledgeable or conversant you are with the stock market, but the top 4 banking stocks in Nigeria are one the cheapest in the world at their current valuations. They are highly liquid and have been consistent with dividend payments over the years, these are the stocks that foreign investors, institutional investors and Pension fund managers invest in. |

Peterwins: Fundamentals do not support the current prices of the listed stocks, I have sold all my Nigerian Breweries, PZ, Nestle, Unilver and Nestle. They are all good companies, but they are not selling at good prices, Price/earning ratio, Price/ earning growth rate, Net asset per share, profit margin do not support their current price. I foresee a stagnation in the price of the listed stocks in no distant future. |

Jarus: Good job, man. I think we have similar orientation. Thanks Jarus for your insight. But as an incurable investor, who is wired to pray for the best and prepare for the worst. I do not think using my money to build a house in the village is an investment savvy decision, I will rather use the return on my investment via dividend, capital gain, profit and interest to build in the village. In most cases such buildings are liability and not an asset, from an investor's point of view. God forbid if one loses a job, but have a house in the village that does not generate rental income nor can be used as a collateral to secure a loan, what can such as person do in that scenario? |

manie: It may or may not be insider trading. However, what is insider trading? Definition of 'Insider Trading' The buying or selling of a security by someone who has access to material, nonpublic information about the security. Investopedia explains 'Insider Trading' Insider trading can be illegal or legal depending on when the insider makes the trade: it is illegal when the material information is still nonpublic--trading while having special knowledge is unfair to other investors who don't have access to such knowledge. Illegal insider trading therefore includes tipping others when you have any sort of nonpublic information. Directors are not the only ones who have the potential to be convicted of insider trading. People such as brokers and even family members can be guilty. Insider trading is legal once the material information has been made public, at which time the insider has no direct advantage over other investors. The SEC, however, still requires all insiders to report all their transactions. So, as insiders have an insight into the workings of their company, it may be wise for an investor to look at these reports to see how insiders are legally trading their stock. source: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/insidertrading.asp |

manie: Really!!! These stocks (Unilever,Guinness, Nestle and Cadbury) are held for long-term and not for short-term / margin trading like financial services stocks. Comparing apples with oranges. No, I think its more like comparing a Cocoa tree(and its yield) with corn/maize. Cash crops vs Food crops. It is important that first time investors in the stock market are adequately and truthfully informed. I don't like when people (especially naive investors) are misguided. I do not like recommending financial services stocks because of their volatility to first time / naive investors who are really ignorant about how the NSE works. However if they insist, a GTB or FBN will be a good start. |

manie: A friend who works with UBA Capital invested 4 million Naira on the shares of UBA in January 2012. He planned to hold the stock for 36 months that is till January 2015. The average purchase price of the stock was between N2.35k and N2.50k.well, if I'm to be in your shoe boss, I'll start the house in lagos not village alright but I'll still invest a greater share of the money on those stocks you've analize already. |
