Simple question: Have you ever given or received bribe irrespective of the situation or condition

Personally, i have given bribes, if i do not remember any, the "Egunje" i gave to those "Korofo's" while i was home makes me guilty, i also remember giving bribe to gate men in the past just to gain entrance to submit my resume which i feel eventually ended up in the trash.

Infact the scenarios are numerous and sometimes they are inevitable, i kind of just concluded its a norm to receive or give bribe in our dear country.

Gaining admission and graduating from tertiary institutions in Nigeria is virtually impossible without any sort of giving or receiving bribes.

The motive of this thread is not to cast aspersions or castigate members based on responses.

Lets share experiences.

Because at one point of your Life you would have to,some even superflous
if it's not wine when when you'r going to visit your project supervisor(which is wise btw) ,it's champagne for gentle reception to get your manuscript signed

Yeah I have, but I always feel good when I don't when being coerced to do so.

One example, I was at the airport with my mum, and we were going to travel with extra cargo. The extra cargo, was a box full of boxed juices that we wanted to ship with us.

The customs guys were making a fuss about it, and I was like it is not illegal so why all the fuss? Anywho, the custom guy then tells me to enter a special room with him.

Keep in mind I was already super duper determined not to pay a dime to anybody that day, so I was mean mugging, with a stone cold grin on my face.

The guy then starts to ask me, "so how much do you love your mum?", I was like what?

He said again, "do you love your mum? Maybe we can help you guys to transport the goods".

To which I responded, "my guy, abeg its one of two things, either its allowed and you carry it on the plane, or it isn't and we take it back home, but I'm not paying you shit".

The guy was shocked and saddened at the same time, he then took me back to the check-in counter and told them to allow the cargo on the plane.

Sadly though my Mum still tipped him, lol.

Anywho, I think little by little we can all learn not to give bribe in order to get things done.

No offense to the Nigerian Police, that is their specialty. But what amazed me recently is seeing the military boys too collecting bribes on the highways too.

It's something that disturb me a lot. Junta boys behaving like our Men In Black.

If you reside here in abuja, it's not called bribe we call it akpala'pala. It's what the situation of the country as forced us into. most times u dont get past even the security men or gate men without dropping akpala'pala. Baba God help us all.
