Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare today smashed the African 100m Women's record! She came from the back and stormed through to win in 10.86s, setting a new African record at the London Olympic Anniversary Games. Up Nigeria! Kudos to Blessing...so far Africa's fastest woman!

I was on the CIV v Nigeria thread cool

The previous African record was 10.90, set by Gloria Alozie in 1999. I hope she'll overtake SAF eventually.

Are you saying she needs 3 seconds off that time to break the world record? I hope not as that wouldn't make sense, or else she would even be faster than Usain Bolt.

Ol boy. U r such a fool ooo ... Who told u dat shelly ann fraser started winning Golds overnyt

Shellz ann has been running professionally and in d shadows of Veronica Campbell for years... Okagbare started sprinting only in 2010!

Its a gr8 feat comin from an African in a race dominated by the Americans & Jamaicans... No Nigerian has ever been close to her feat (No offense to Mary Onyali n Chioma Ajunwa)
We should learn to praise our own!

And BTW make sure u post a comment when she wins a medal at the World Championships next 2weeks ... Infact 3 medals ... 100m, 200m and Long Jump!

You come across as someone who only knows about the olympics and not someone who follows athletics as an atheltic fan(correct me if I'm wrong). I can assure you that even other competitors and other nations(journalists/athletes) will take notice of her performance. It is an African Record for crying out loud and there are not many 10.7 female runners so her accomplishment while not being an olympic medal(which she already has) is worth taking note of.
With the world championships two weeks away, it's even more exciting. Also, the diamond league events are major, money generating and a chance to race your fellow competitors. Would you prefer she did nothing and turned up at the "Olympics" expecting to win a medal without doing the work needed before?

Well - let me, take back my words initially, because of what you have said, *Would you prefer she did nothing and turned up at the "Olympics" * she performed well, considering the fact that, we are really not an athletic loving nation, but- I just wanted us to encourage her to win that coveted gold medal, on the world stage. Its like winning the world cup, if you win the women's 100m gold at the olympics, you become the world current fastest woman, but no matter how many records you break at all these meets, they would mention it as the woman that ran the fastest time, set a world record at the london diamond olympics - believe you me, even if you don't break the a record at the olympics, in as much as you came first at the 100m dash, they would call her, the fastest woman in the world, I guess that was my position-
