Mr. Dikko was accused of high level of corruption during Shagari’s regime.

The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has approved the composition of the party’s national disciplinary committee, appointing Umaru Dikko as the head of the committee.

In a statement, the acting national publicity secretary, Tony Okeke, Monday, said the appointment is pursuant to the provisions of Articles 57 (1), (2), (3) of the Constitution of the Party.

Mr. Dikko was a stalwart of the National Party of Nigeria in the second republic. He was also the Minister of Transport and an influential cabinet member in the administration of former President Shehu Shagari.

He was a controversial figure in Mr. Shagari’s government after he was accused of high level corruption following his role in the importation of rice into the country.

After the fall of Mr. Shagari’s government, he fled the country to the UK, and there was an attempt to kidnap and return him back to the country by the military regime of Muhammadu Buhari.

He was reportedly placed in a wooden box and was about to be ferried to Nigeria, when the attempt was foiled.

Other members of the committee are, King A.J. Turner, Deputy Chairman, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Shuaibu Oyedokun, Nana Ayishat Kadiri, and Hussaini Diraki Emmanuel Agboti, a Senator is the secretary of the committee.

Mr. Okeke added that the committee shall be inaugurated by the National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, at a date to be announced later.
