During the strike they were demanding a pay increase to R12 500 〓 $1 250 〓 N200 000. They then settled on a 22% increase which gave them a +/- monthly salary of R11 000 〓 $1 100 〓 N177 000.

This is what miners get paid in South Africa, it's not much but most Nigerian graduates would kill for such a salary.
