Fashola's Law Has Caught Him Today. by Chanchit: 8:43pm On Aug 06, 2013
Some few months ago, Lagos state government anounced that there's no more space to bury people in Lagos, so they would need to start cremating the dead.
Our dear governor's dad died some few days back, and he was buried today, instead of our Fashola to show us that all the silly laws he's making also applies to him, he jst showed us that his laws are for the powerless in Lagos state.
I saw mobile police men with their hilux van packed around Labinjo street, near Bode Thomas, all the people selling food around Bode Thomas and its environs don clear for road. I later heard it in the news that they are doing prayer in Fashola's fathers house.

When I first heard the cremating idea, I thought it was good, but now I knw its very bad, they are just trying to burn the dead bodies that belongs to the poor, while they bury theirs in a safe place. God punish devil. Who cares if the whole of Lagos turns to cemetery. Fashola, go and burn the paper where that silly law is written, cos it can't stand..!

Laws in Nigeria have always been "for them" ie the poor masses. The thieving political class are usually above the law. Hypocrites!

On the other hand, may be the law has not been sanctioned for full implementation.

On the other hand, may be the law has not been sanctioned for full implementationv yet. The dead are still being buried daily in Lagos yet none of the families of the deceased has complained of being forced to cremate their dead.

Why are you losing sleep over some laws you know little or nothing about?

And instead of familiarizing yourself with the law and it's true meaning, you are here punishing us with your ignorance.

Have you ever thought that maybe Fash's family purchased their burial plots a long time ago, before the law went into effect?

Fashocrook is a senseless governor, a thorn in the flesh of poor lagosians. He makes laws only to turn around and break such laws.the law said cremate or burn your dead loved ones but for the rich and powerful bury your loved ones.bwahahahahahahahahahahah chei and the interesting part is that some people are defending the lunatic on this thread.

nothing lasts forever, one day all the evil laws he is making will turnaround and haunt him for the rest of his life.

Senseless governor ruling over confused people grin

Lagos And The Cremation Law

25 Jun 2013

Nigerians will have to get used to the law

A law legalising cremation of human bodies came into force in Lagos State early this month. Before appending his signature, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) said the new law "tells the story of how global the state has become in the affairs of things". But not every Lagosian seems to have agreed with the governor, as some critical stakeholders have condemned it as alien to our culture.

For sure, there are considerable merits in the arguments being made in support of the law. One, the state government has been facing daunting challenges in managing unclaimed corpses in all its general hospitals and morgues; so this offers an easy way out with regard to disposing off such abandoned corpses. Two, the law expands choices and options for foreigners and also for indigenes who prefer to be cremated or who specify the way their bodies should be treated in their wills. Three, the law takes into consideration the need to have formal legal structure for the cremation of deceased persons within the state; which then means that establishing crematoria for the state, there can no longer be cremations except in places duly recognised, established and managed according to the law.

From the foregoing, it is very clear that the essence of the law is to legalise and strictly regulate the manner in which cremations will be carried out in Lagos State. Before an application for cremation is allowed, there must be a death certificate issued; a certified true copy of the entry of the deceased death in the relevant registers; and confirmed medical certificate which must certify the cause of the death. Under the law, it must be the deceased that provides for it or their families who agree to make the application.

Where a will is silent, the law states, the closest relation who may apply must have attained the age of 18. Also, a medical officer can apply for cremation for abandoned corpses which are not claimed after a period of time. The law dwells on the aftermath of unclaimed corpses in the state and the step-by-step approach to their disposal. Once a 14-day notice is given after cremation and if nobody claims the ashes, the office can dispose of it.

Beyond what might be provided for in the law which took its roots from a private bill, Fashola said that cremation "is a way to go, given the mega-city status of Lagos" and we consider the arguments rather persuasive. As a global city, as the governor stated, there is a compelling need to provide standard solutions, as it is done in many other cities in the world, especially for those who choose that kind of service. Indeed, the law becomes most indispensable given the fact that people daily migrate into, choose a home and set up businesses in the state. Consequently, as the governor put it, the state should be able to respond to the need of all its residents and should not be insensitive to other people's beliefs and customs.

However, the law has stoked serious disapproval, especially from some religious leaders. As they have argued, cremating human bodies is alien to the prevailing cultures, traditions and religions, be it in Lagos State or in any part of Nigeria. The argument therefore is that no condition should warrant the enactment of such a legal regime that undermines our country's intrinsic values and belief systems.  But to the extent that nobody is compelled to cremate, as against burying on the ground, we do not see where the problem lies. What the Lagos State Government has done is merely to provide options for those who may choose to cremate the bodies of their deceased family members. To that extent, we do not think that the law should offend any sensibility.

I don't know why Nigerians tend to go haywire whenever someone makes a simple mistake, instead of them to correct the person, they would start crying. Even the whites that owns the language do make mistake sometimes. I even corrected the mistake before I saw that people have started crying already.
I heard Seun would start paying people with Phd in Nairaland very soon.
And Fashola should lead by example, then the whole of Lagos would start cremating, you know we like to copy.

For the avoidance of doubt:

1) Nobody is forced to cremate the dead, rather the law gives you a choice.

2) The law also enables the government to better manage its morgues, by giving the government the right to cremate corpses that are not claimed after a specified time frame and after due notification has been given.

3)The law regulates crematoria.

4) I repeat, the law does not force you to cremate corpses.

Don't be an Ignorant Fool. The Law applies to Individuals that are yet to claim the Bodies of their acquaintances in the Mortuary after a long Time Period.
Dont mind them ignorant, Fashola haters. They will rather die than admit Fashola is the best thing to happen to Nigeria. Pdp lapdogs
