GOVERNOR Jonah Jang of Plateau State led Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, will meet tomorrow, Sunday with Constitution review topping the agenda, just as Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi was invited for the meeting.

Also invited to the Jang faction of NGF Sunday meeting according to our source are Governors Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Aliyu Babangida of Niger State, Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto and other state governors.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that at the meeting which will take place at the Maitama Secretariat of the NGF, the issue of local government financial autonomy that was killed by the Senate and passed by the House of Representatives will form the major agenda of the meeting, just as the governors will tomorrow take a position on the issue which has become controversial ahead of the Conference of the National Assembly.

Also to be discussed by the governors is the dwindling revenue earnings from oil following oil theft in the Niger Delta where Nigeria has lost hundreds of barrels from the activities of oil thieves.

A source told Saturday Vanguard that the Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam who chairs the sub committee will present the report of his committee to the governors on the way forward, just as the lingering crisis between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU would form part of the meeting.

A statement from Jang’s NGF’s office simply said that, “The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau State has summoned an emergency meeting of members of the forum.

”The meeting will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the NGF Secretariat, 2 Nana Close, off Erie Crescent, Nile Street, Maitama, Abuja at 7.30 PM. The agenda for the meeting are: Constitution Amendment. Thanks for your continuous cooperation.”

It will be recalled that the NGF has been polarised since May during the last Chairmanship election where Governor Amaechi scored 19 votes to defeat Jang of Plateau State who polled 16 votes.”

Meanwhile, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has commiserated with Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State over the death of his father, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ademola Fashola.

Jang who expressed shock and sadness over the incident in a statement yesterday, also extended his sympathy to the entire Fashola family and the people of Lagos state, noting that the passing of such a patriarch will indeed leave a huge vacuum in the lives of the Fashola family and Lagosians.

According to the statement, “The NGF chairman noted that the late Fashola can rest peacefully knowing he has blessed the nation and the people of Lagos State with a selfless servant in the person of Gov. Babatunde Fashola.

”He assured the Lagos State Governor that the members of the Forum will continue to pray that God will comfort him and his family at this time of grief.”

Your are big liar! Have you being to Plateau State Before?
Massive Developments are going on especially in Road constructions and Jos is very Peaceful now, apart from isolated cases of clashes in few remote villages.

As for me, this meeting looks more organised than that Kangaroo one Ameachi was planning to organise the other time but never held it till date.

Governors forum is a forum for Governors. Whether they are 16 or 19 it doesn't make any difference as far as they meet to make Positive Imapact. It didn't say "All Governors Forum". So it is not compulsary for Ameachi and the five northern governors that have no work to do than spending tax payers touring the 36 states.

The truth of the matter is that Amaechi and his co-travellers are being reduce to dustbin of history.
Since the controversial election, Amaechi could not summon a meeting of the forum. This is the third meeting summoned by Gov. Jang.
If you take a careful look at the agenda of the meeting, the decisions to be taken at the meeting will have a far reaching impact on the nation. And might decide the direction in which constitution amendment will go. The major hurdle will be the ability of the Forum to have at least 23 state governors in the meeting. Whatever decision they take will determine the direction of the amendment will go. Unfortunately for Amaechi, his state does not have a say in this amendment, Rivers State Assembly's position is National Assembly position.

This man should be Jonah Junk, not Jonah Jang, well I won't blame him much. After taking a careful look @ all the governors, GEJ decided to appoint a governor that can't control his state to come and head a governors forum. Anyway, it takes a man that can't control his country to appoint a man that can't control his state.

Dont u think d hausa fulani attacking his state are sponsored n hav d support of their leaders? That explains y Jona is supported by d Middle Belt tribes against any hausa fulani. I must admit that Jang is a hero. Ur question is better forwarded 2 d 5 almajiri governors going round d con3 when Boko Haram is destroying people's lives

Since Amaechi insisted he won the election, he should go to court.
Or convey his own meeting.
Set up his own committee on Revenue and other sundry matter.

Have you read the agenda of the meeting?
I don't need to benefit directly from the forum, but Nigerians need to benefit from it, if not it should be completely scrapped.

But from from what I read, the Jang's faction has something meaninful to discuss.

The ones speaking against the NGF meeting called by Jang and giving reasons of legitimacy and how important or beneficial the forum is to Nigerians, will shout Hurray!! and celebrate should Amaechi call for a meeting. Silly sentiments and hypocrisy I must say.

Be it Amaechi or Jang. I think governors should face governance in their respective states. period.

Did you say rigged? No this the problem we are having with our politicians, they like to go the other way round.

Imaging 16 winning 19 vote, they like to read everything including the country constitution in MIRROW writing.

With MIRROW writing, 16 > 19. 16 become 91 and 19 become 61 that is how jang and jona see it.

Don't sweat the small stuff bro.
The meeting has its agenda spelt out if you care to read.
And on a wider implication, when decisions are taken on constitution amendment, only 23 state houses of Assembly are needed to pass any amendment by National Assembly. So whatever the Jang group decided on during their meeting will go a long way into deciding the direction of the constitution amendment. Unfortunately for Amaechi, his state Assembly decision will be taken for him by the National Assembly. So he does not have any relevance in this meeting.
If you stay with 16 greater than 19, you are living in the past, NGF has moved beyond that.

first of all, nigeria has no power to grant people in western nigeria any form of autonomy. because according to the act, the national assembly should not have any or little form of power

autonomy means independent

western nigeria became independent in 1957
